Hi! Just found this site and it's fantastic - i'm addicated already!

Me and my partner are looking to move to Oz asap as the lifestyle is sooooo much better out there. We live in Manchester at the mo and can't wait to escape. The main problem is that we don't have occupations onthe skills migration list so are having to try to get a job offer an sponsorhsip. We're looking to go you to Oz in October for 3 weeks to try to get in as many interview's as possible. Any advice on the best way to do this would be great!

I absolutely love Sydney so i think that's where we'll be focusing on. We're gonna hit up Melbourne and Adelaide as well while we're over there.

The only other option we have is for me to go out alone on a working holiday visa (i've already been to NZ on one) and try to secure an employer to sponsor me and my partner (he's out of the age bracket for the working holiday visa but only just!!!). What do you think the chances are of pulling this off???

Hi welcome to pio. I have been on for about 6 months now,and have got loads of info. We fly out in 3 weeks to Brisbane. Through this site i have made friends,and got sorted out with a place to stay when we arrive. I know without a skill it my make thinks a bit more difficult for you, but stick with it. Good Luck.

Greg - hope it all goes well for you over in Brisbane. Spent the New Year before last there and it was a right laugh. Although we managed to find the worst spot to watch the fireworks and missed half of it!!!

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

Unfortunately it is not as simple as imagining that you can get sponsorship for a job which is not on the list of recognised skills. If your occupation really is not on the list then you run the risk that DIAC might block the attempt to obtain a visa.

What exactly do you and your Partner do, please? Also, what qualifications and how much full time work experience does each of you have in your respective fields, please? Thirdly, how old are you and how old is your Partner?

HGV drivers are a good illustration of my reservations about your idea. Apparently it is either a skill that Australia does not need to import, or it is not treated as a skilled job. (Opinion seems to varya about what the exact problem is.) Eith way, DIAC central office have given instructions that no visas are to be illusedto would-be migrant HV drivers.
