New to the Site

Hi everyone, just thought i'd introduce myself and family onto this great little site. Must admit have been looking in for a few weeks now prior to registering, so thought its time to now get involved!!

A brief intro, don't mean to bore you all....Me and my family will be moving over to Sydney early next year for a minimum 3 years. I work in the Banking world (yawn I know) and my bank wants to send me over to work in our Sydney office, bummer eh!!!! I have worked in Sydney before for a year (same company) but that was 10 years ago and my circumstances were very different to how they are now..... (I was a single guy 24 years old last time, now i'm 34 married with twin girls of 3 and another due to be born early June!!). So anyway, currently looking for a family friendly place to stay, preferbly on the North Shore/Northern Beaches somewhere where there are good schools and friendly people. If anyone can help or just want a chat about life down under then that would be great.

Cheers
Dave n Sam

Hi Dave and Sam,

Welcome to PIO !!

We spent a year in Oz 10 years ago and lived in Manly, so may have been there same time as you!!! Have chosen to live on the Gold Coast this time now we have a family, but we did go down to Sydney and stay in Manly last month and it was great to do all the places we used to go to - but very different with kids!! Sydney seems to have got soooo much busier and Manly itself, but probably mainly tourists in Manly so may be worth you trying out the suburbs just north of Manly where its more of a 'place to live' rather than full of tourists.

Good luck

Liz

Thanks for that Liz. Our paths may well have passed 10 years ago... I used to live in Neutral Bay but I did go over Manly often (a friend of mine worked in the ICU at Manly Hospital), so plenty of lively nights were had there!!!

I had to go over for work last year for 5 weeks so I took the family with me and we hired a house in Harbord just up from Manly, which was lovely, although we did feel a bit isolated up there...
Like yourself I couldn't believe how busy Manly was and this was in May the start of their 'winter'!!!

Welcome to PIO Dave and Sam!

There's always someone who can help here, but be warned - it's more addictive than chocolate (well, nearly)

Hello and welcome

We haven’t lived in Sydney for 4 years now but have many friends still out there. House prices and rental rates don’t seem to have changed much since the drop post the 2000 Olympics boom, but are still very high. Here another site to look at for real estate. Real Estate for Sale, Rent and Share @ Domain.com.au .As you know Sydney is not the easiest city to travel around…unless you can live your life via the ferries! Whereabouts will you be working and how long are you willing to spend on the commute? Here are a couple of schools sites: Sydney Schools
How to enrol at a Public School

All the best…and will advise if I can.

Bonzer Sheila, thanks for the links you sent. I will be working in the CBD on Park Street, Town Hall station literally round the corner, so train would be ideal. I will only be 10 minutes from Wynard as well so pretty flexible. I'm looking at a door to door commute of up to about an hour...
