Rabbies

Can i just say to all those people taking pets its a really good idea to include a rabies injection(not needed for oz)but if you decide to return to the uk and your pet hasnt had it they will have to do six months quirantine.which isnt nearly as easy as quarantine in oz(TOTAL ISOLATION)i know we all go thinking we wont be comeing back but it dos happen and its our poor little babies that suffer.forsight is a great thing so please give it some thought i wish i had

Hi Aggie

I'm not sure that's correct.

Australia is a country that is covered by the Pet Travel Scheme.

This means that the dogs can have their rabies vaccination in Australia and all the blood work etc etc etc, whilst in Oz.

As long as they meet the criteria for the PETS, they won't have to do the six months quarantine in the UK.

Ofc this does also mean that they haven't put paws into a country not on the PETS.

I think this is correct. I apologize in advance if I got it wrong.

Just a quick addition to your notes, when your animal has its rabies vaccinations, it is six months from the date of the blood tests taken for these vaccinations before it allowed back in the Uk without going into quarantine, so if you travel abroad and return within six months of the initial vaccs your animal will have to spend the difference in quarantine. You will also need to have these vaccs annually for the passport to be kept valid. Also check with AQIS because depending on if you take your animal out of Australia it will then have to come back and go into quarantine depending on where it has been outside of Australia.

Thats correct Suee its six months from time of blood test. but when renewing vacsine dont leave it right till its due date incase pet gets unwell or vet isnt avalible.Because if your so much as 1 day late you'll have to play the waiting game again.
