WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Me and OH have been doing alot of talking over the last few years about 'Going For It' and are now at the stage where we spend alot of time looking on various websites and spending even more time reading everyone else's PIO threads!
We have gone as far as to speak to a couple of agents - and think we should get in on a 175 visa (OH is a mechanic).
Now I am having a slight wobble. I like my life just now (apart from money worries, but doesn't everyone?) but I do think that we will regret it if we don't at least try. I like my job (Animal Care Assistant), the hours are good, my kids are happy and settled and OH enjoys his job. Should we really uproot everyone? What if we get to Oz and realise we have made a mistake?
But on the other hand, I think about making the move to Oz and I feel excitement at a new adventure that we can enjoy together. We haven't told anyone (not even the kids yet until we sort ourselves out) and if I'm honest I think it's because saying the words will make it real - and that pretty scary!
Does anyone else feel like this ?

Hi, we moved out in sept 07, my hubby ste 36, me 34, lauren 8 and matty who is 21months now. Hubby is mechanic and we applied for a 636 visa, all I can tell you is it is such a different way of life, we have made some really freat friends here, as we have no relatives. We are both so glad we made the move, although it was me that was more apprehensive than Ste, worrying about the kids!
8yr old settled in, within weeks and never wants to leave, hubby same, little boy doesnt know any different!(lol) I miss my family, but wouldnt give up what we have here, I only have the odd day where I am down, but just planning our first formal bbq, hope you make the right decision for you, good luck,
if you wanna chat or ask anything you can send an email, will help out as much as we can,
Cath

I think its a personal choice that only you know the answer too. Many love it ,many hate it,id have a long chat with the hubby and if you are both 101% behind it give it a go,try writing a pros and cons list and have a good read through this forum ,its not a text book its real life experiences both good and bad, good luck with whatever you decide and keep us informed,
Cal x
Hi Lynne, just wanted to say a big hello, and YES, i agree with everything you are saying!
Theres nothing wrong with our life here, we have lovely house, great friends, family, decent wages, comfortable lifestyle - in fact, why ARE we moving????!!!!!!
However, there has always been that niggle in my mind about the opportunity and experience this move could offer all of us, and I just think we have to give it a go or ile always be wondering, what if...?
The further we get down the process, the more wobbly I feel at times, but whenever someone asks me about Oz, I cant help grinning and thinking, its going to my new home one day, so im sure we are doing the right thing by giving it a go.

hi lynne we feel the same ,we have the nice house good schools etc i love my job (florist) my oh is a joiner we are at the same stage as you looking for an agent . some days i think bring it on i want to pack my bags now and then some days i dont but the problem is we have never been to australia and cant afford to have a recci ,have you been. love carolyn x
HI Lynne
Compeletly, feel the same as you. Justed started the process, and have an agent in mind. I have a couple of friends in Perth, one been there 2 yaers, the other since last July (and have no regrets). I wish I had started the process last year (now I am 45). I could have done it on 175 skilled independent as I am a midwife, but practice as a Health visitor and will go on a 457 with a sponser.
We are planning going out to have a look- still not sure what part to go to? So I guess what I am saying is go with gut feeling-to have the quality of life my friends have you would need to earn double here.
Hi Lynne
I think we all go through what you are going through now. Its a big decision to make, the biggest probably you will ever have to make. We started our application over 12mths ago and 90% of the time I feel excited and just cant wait untill we get there, on the other hand 10% I get jittery, feel sick at the thought and wonder are we doing the right thing. So your not on your own and Im sure you will make the right decision.. Good luck

pls can you tell me if your oh is still a mechanic, and where abouts in oz you are, my oh is also a mechanic and we don't know where to relocate too we have 2 small children and are looking for a small village to relocate too and can you pls tell me which agent you used there seems to be so many my head is picked and l am just starting. thanks very much and sorry about the ten thousand questions lynne
Well, we have done alot of talking over the last couple of days and we have decided that we are going to start the application!
Carolyn - we are same as you - we have never been to Oz and if I'm honest, we will have to scrimp and save in order to pay for the visa application so I can't see us affording a recci! it's a shame though, I would have liked to go and spend some time there.
We are thinking about Victoria. I think the main reason is there seem to be quite alot of mechanic jobs in and around Melbourne and the suburbs look nice (and affordable!). Also, it's not hot hot hot all of the time.
Thanks again to everyone for your words of wisdom - I'm sure we will have a million more questions in the months to come!
