WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
I am currently waiting for my 457 visa to come through and I am needing a lot of encouragement, I am sure I am not the only one in this position but being on here might help. I am a midwife and have a job in Sydney and just waiting for things to proceed. Tracy
What do you need encouragement with? Are you worried about upping sticks and leaving the UK? Or is it the visa application process itself that's getting you down?
There are people on this forum who are also applying for a 457 so I'm sure they can answer your questions if you have any.
Thanks Kate for you message, it is just the whole process of applying, we are so close now, just waiting for my registration to come through as a midwife then hopefully we can get our visa but I am sick to death of all the paperwork etc!!! I am very excited about the whole thing and am keen to get the ball rolling further but her I am still waiting - when are you hoping to go and what stage of the process are you at? Tracy
Oh, we are a long way behind you! Dan, my hubby is a very experienced yet unqualified dryliner and so we don't have a pathway to apply for a visa. We have just started proceedings for him to be assessed for an Australian qualification which will then open up a route. We could look for a sponsor but on the first few emails I sent to firms in Queensland (where we are hoping to go) they don't seem to have much work! Funny though as his trade is on the MODL!
My brother is on the Gold Coast and his wife is hoping one day to train as a midwife. She's already had a baby over there and said that it seems as though midwives are needed badly. Although she did say that she didn't really have much dealing with any midwives until the actual birth. Most check ups were done with the GP. Do you have any idea what's in store for you?
Hi Dolphin 2122, dont worry we are all in the same boat...

I think midwifery is going to be totally different out there compared to here but until I get there I won't really know what its like. I know obstetricians are a huge involvement in maternity. Considering there is such a shortage of midwives in Australia I was so disappointed when I found out the NSW wouldn't sponsor me as a midwife as originally I applied for the 176 visa, so I have been in this paperwork bashing for so long now as had to start all over again - what a nightmare. The day I touch down in Oz will be the day I will believe everything is happening. What stage are you at?
Well, you obviously want this or else you wouldn't be going through the process! That's one thing that reassures me about the application. Those that aren't really bothered won't go through the paperwork, they'll give up. (You hope anyway!) It's good to know that most other Brits want it as much as you do.
Keep going. It will all be worth it. Life's far too short to worry. Before we know it we'll be looking back at these days laughing at how stressed we were!
My husband and children - aged 9 and 11 are coming with me, I did wonder about putting my parents on the application but if that time comes they will get out no problem. I am really excited about the whole process but just want to get moving, I feel we have been in this for a long time now and haven't got anywhere.
