New to this. Hoping to move to Oz later this year, myself husband and 2 kids. Visa application was lodge on the 9/4/08. Could you please advise how long before we are sent for medicals.

I sent my application in Apr-03 and got my medicals in Dec-03 so about 8 months, that was for a skilled independant visa. Visa was granted in Feb 04.
I think it depends on the type visa you apply for but I doubt whether you'll get them in time to go this year.

We are going on a sponsered visa from the South Australian Government. Do you think this will make any difference.

I don't think it'll make much difference as to whether it'll be granted this year.
There are a fixed number of visas issued each year with the year starting 1st July. Once the limit has been reach applications are put in a queue (as received) and then started again on 1st July.

Hopefully someone has applied to the SA government in the past and can give you some further guidance.

Hi Guys and welcome to PIO. The wait is awful so know how you are feeling, the unknown as well, will we, wont we get a visa? Im sure its on it way...

application ready to lodge and they changed the points system.
Migration agent found sept 07
SA Sponsorship granted jan 08
Visa lodged april 08
Police checks will have to be done again as they run out in August.
