WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
I am new to this site, and am finding it a really good source of information. Any advice would be great. I have always wanted to live in Australia, and think i am now ready to take the steps to get there.
I want to ask if the people who have applied without using an agent managed it without any major hiccups, as i am thinking of trying to do it myself, as it seems to save a lot of money.
I know that moving there would be the right move for me and my family, but i just don't know if being at the other side of the world will suit me, as i am so close to my mum, how does everyone who has moved cope with that.
Thanks for taking the time to read my thread. Hopefully i will get to chat to others in the same boat as myself.

Hi Tracy
You are not alone and most on here feel the same way as you do. My OH has been onto me for years to do this. It takes time for you to get your head around things, even now I still have knots in my stomache and wonder are we doing the right thing? Im close to my family and my parents are not getting any younger but neither are we. Its now or never and whats the worst that can happen, we have to come back to family and friends. That dont seem that bad

Hi - I just joined up today too! it's dead scary this moving away malarky, and I do feel a tad guilty about even thinking about moving away, I have 2 kids under 4 and my OH is an only child, so his parents wont see their only grandchildren grow up - but then again the world is a much smaller in this day and age and I am sure they have web cams and msn in oz. Also, sometimes you have to be a bit selfish and think of what is best for you and your family. (and if you didn't try, would you regret it?????)
It's so difficult making this decision. I am also close to my family and for the last year my hubby, my baby and I have moved in with them to save money for the big move (we leave in June), I too feel really guilty about taking their Grandson away but hubby has always dreamt of this and it has taken a long time to get visa's etc that we just have to go. I am excited in one way but unsure in another. It is a small world though and keeping in touch is easier now than ever, plus if you don't try it you will never know...can always come home!
Yeah, making this decision has been really tough and both me and my wife will be taking away a grandchild from our parents. But we are doing this more for our son than for ourselves. We don't see much of a future for him in the Uk and we won't be happy unless we give Oz a try. We are using an agent, but it seems as long as your case is straightforward that you could manage without. We are just cautious because the slightest mistake can delay things. Good luck with the process whatever you decide to do.
Wanted to welcome you to PIO. I agree with ******* (Pink Princess) if your application is going to be straight forward may be no need for agent but would probably approach an agent anyway for a free consultation. Hope the application goes well.
