Hi Shaun
This is a hard one to answer! Australia is so diverse, we started in Melbourne, but it was unsuitable for us, many reasons. We are now in Cairns Qld, and love it, it depends on what work you do, and just how australian you want to live, lets face it all cities are pretty much the same, countryside here is fab, you have the fantastic barrier reef and rainforest in Qld, and that suits us, also weather varies from state to state, you have to know what sort of lifestyle you are expecting then hope to marry it up with work, schools, etc. Good Luck.

G'day Shaun, welcome to PIO. I was scared about the bugs too, my four year old went through a phase of bringing me worms in in England which was bad enough, but snakes/spiders/cockroaches! I've had no worries re the kids; the bugs and geckos leg it the other way, and are faster than my little ones.
We're on the Gold Coast; nice climate in the winter, hot in the summer (but you get acclimatised a bit!), and plenty to do for the kids; all the major theme parks are here, plus lovely beaches, good public transport (I believe, I don't use it!) and Surfers Paradise is great for shopping. Bit more expensive to buy a house, but probably worth it on balance I'm coming to think.
Jo

Hi and welcome to PIO, as bohlesover said - hard one to answer, we're in WA and love it here - it just ticks all our boxes!! If your wife is really worried about wildlife then don't choose a place in the bush, as Jo said - the wildlife tends to run the other way!

lol,,this sounds like something i would have wrote 2 years ago!! tell her not to worry theres no spiders hiding behind doors ready to attack and the snakes arent curled up under ya bed in a morning.really it isnt that bad at all,in nearly 2 years(and living semi rural) ive seen one redback ,a few huntsmans and one teeney weeney tree snake. It scared me more reading about them whilst still in the uk,lol,,
Have you any idea which part of Australia you are fancying ? theres guys on here all over Oz so someone will be able to help with areas if you can narrow down states, good luck with everything
