The OP is my daughter, which is why I get frusrated at the conflicting info, sorry jarvi, didn't mean to sound so blunt. We are heading to Brisbane in Nov 08, when she would have just turned 16. (In the UK she would be sitting her GCSEs in June 2009 when she would then start her A levels, finishing in June 2011 and then university in Sept that year, aged 18).
We know that the Oz school year starts in Jan and it would therefore be natural for Grace to commence her final 2 years schooling at that time, and hence start uni on the semester beginning Jan 2011, half a year ahead of her UK contempories. If she was to start directly into year 12 then she would potentially be finishing school a full 18 months ahead of the UK - Grace that is not going to happen!
It is true that in UK she is one of the eldest in her year, and if brought up in Oz, she would be one of the youngest, and already in the year above, and therein lies the confusion. Jarvi your son is absolutely spot-on.
Thank you.

Most of the other states have kids starting year 11 as they are turning 16 and the OP didnt state where they would be living.
