WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
I have been reading this website now for a couple of months and finally decided to bite the bullet and post something !! My husband and I are looking to re locate to Perth, we have 2 children 5 & 6yrs and have just found out we are expecting a 3rd !! We are looking to emigrate for the same common reasons, better quality of family live, better weather etc...
My husband is an Systems Engineer and in my former life (before rugrats!) I was a Recruitment Consultant. Hubby is off to Perth in May to start the rounds of meeting with Recruitment companies etc... & to do some research. He has only a week to pack a lot in so any helpful hints would be very much appreciated !
Also on another note our 6yr old son is on the Autistic spectrum. He is mildly Autistic and attends mainstream school. Anyone else in a similar boat ?
Also, Hubby should not be too ready to accept suggestions about visas. Employers will often say "457" which is a temporary visa simply because it is often the only one they have heard of.
It may not, in fact, be the best visa either for the employee or for the employer.
It would be worth getting some basic gen from a couple of reputable Registsred Migration Agents, I reckon, before Hubby sets off. This way, he would be playing off the front foot which is always desirable. If he has no idea which visa is being suggested, he has no way to say, "No. I'd prefer immediate PR, please."
Good Agents do not charge for an initial 15 minutes or so on the phone. I'd suggest the following:
..Welcome to you and your family..as you've gathered it is a great site for info and help..as always Gollywobbler gives great info!..all the best for your plans and your forthcoming arrival.. Tess
I am new to this so writing for the first time, I have 4 children my eldest is very mildly on the autistic spectrum. We are currently looking at Secret Harbour in Perth as my son is very keen to get surfing and this estate has its own beach with a surf club, we hope this will keep him occupied after school. We have also considered Brisbane but there are not many beach side housing estates with surf clubs.
Hi I am Liz and I am new to this we are in the process of hoping to migrate to Australia hopefully Melbourne, we are doing it through************ **** but our fees are around £5800 so we are looking into selling up to pay our fees. I am married and have 2 girls Chloe 5 and Daisy nealry 2

Reason: This agency has asked not to be named on the forum
The going rate for the Agent's own profit costs for handling the initial appraissal, skills assessment and then the visa application is around £2,000 plus VAT. The fees for the skills assessment, the visa application charge, medicals and police check are all additional to the fee I suggest.
So you need to know exactly how this figure of £5,800 is calculated and what it includes.
Go Matilda and Ian Harrop both work on a fixed fee deal. There are no extra costs for sending or responding to e-mails, and absolutely no "hidden extras" of any other sort either.
I would suggest getting a few more quotes from agents who are not as resticent about being named on the forums as the firm in question seems to be.
How old is your eldest son ? Does he attend mainstream school ? One of the main reasons for us to migrate is because our son who is 6yrs is such an out doors child and we feel we would be able to offer him a much better quality of live if we move. We have spoken to quite a few people and they seem to think that having an Ausitic son won't affect our chances of being accepted as residents as long as we are not dependent on the state, which we won't be. Obviously this is an area we need to look into further.
My son is 14 but is very mildly autistic has some traits but not always obvious to others, he is in main stream school and the older he gets the less noticable the traits are becoming. He relates very well to adults but not very tolerant of younger children. We hope life in Australia will be more outdoor and keep him occupied( he is very active and was once thought to have ADHD rather than autistic traits). We just need to make a decision about whether to go to Perth or Queensland. We went on our second trip to oz in March, Perth had beautiful beaches and a fantastic transport system with a much cleaner city, but we were worried we may get bored eventually. Queensland was fab too, this time we stayed on the Sunshine coast at a fantastic resort called Twin Waters, last year we stayed in Brisbane (which was not as clean as Perth and traffic was much busier), we would love to live on the Sunshine coast but there are not many rental houses available at a price we can afford. I have been offered a job in Brisbane so have looked at suburbs around there but not many are bayside with good beaches and surf clubs, also rentals seem more expensive. Perth seems to offer more rental properties at better prices in beach suburbs, also we have friends about to move to Perth in autumn (I also have a job offer in a neonatal unit in Perth.) So you see I am in a dilemma my heart fell in love with Queensland but my head with Perth and I just cannot make a decison.
Any way Johns back to autism and your family, what part of Perth are you hoping to go to and when do you hope to get there.
