Hi, We're Jon & Trace and have just started preparing ourselves for Oz. I have family in Perth and wanted to go since I was a child but the timing was never right. Finally, after 10 years of pleading with my husband, we went out for 5 weeks at the end of last year! It was fantastic! Neither of us wanted to come home! We have now decided on our visa route, but are unable to apply for another 12 months!
We (well I) have told a small number of friends about our plans, but we haven't said anything to the children (although they loved it out there), incase things don't pan out well for us. We also haven't told family as I can't do with people crying on me etc., Once things start progressing, we'll start telling people properly. It's killing me! (I hate keeping secrets!!!!)

Tracey
hi and welcome,
can i ask where abouts in perth you stayed. we too cannot apply for at least twelve months (when i have finished my degree). the visa process seems very confusing to me. we may use an agent when the time comes as they come highly recommended on this forum. do you go to the expo in leeds? we went but didnt find it much use. this site has been more useful. fortunately we dont really have much family just us and the kids really which is easier but friends are all saying its just a pipe dream. the main reason people dont settle and want to come back seems to be because of missing family so at least we'll be ok on the front.
We are also just starting out. We appointed the agent a couple of days ago and he has promised to send through paperwork on Monday.
OH is a panel beater/sprayer and has a job offer in Toowoomba just outside Brisbane. He is worried about the TRA and says he will feel a lot happier when we have got past that hurdle.
We have two children a son of 19 who is in the army and therefore not coming with us and a daughter aged 10.
Petra

Hi we have just joined PIO although for past few weeks have been reading everyone's post's. Just registered with agent and taken first step in filling out application for oh skilled assessment for joiner/carpenter with vetassess. Have two daughter's aged 3 & 12 although older daughter from previous relationship so need permission from her dad in order to move.
Have decided for time being not to tell anyone about move apart from my parents. Cant keep a secret from my mum to save my life. Oh doesnt want to say anything till he passes the skills assessment so for now its fingers on lips. Older daughter has mixed feelings, obviously will miss dad and school friends. Just started high school so I worry about uprooting her but hopefully this move will benefit us all in the long run.
I would appreciate any replies from anyone in same boat or anyone who has just started the ball rolling. Me and Lee and my youngest will be going to Leeds expo on sunday just for a look around although have been searching all my questions on the internet so not sure what to expect.
Hoping eventually to move to either WA or Queensland as told thats where work is for carpenter/joiner.
Bring it on
Firstly welcome newcomers
Hi suze
We are awaiting date for OH skills test he is also a carpenter/joiner he started a thread(skills test) and if you need to know anything about test there is some very useful info on there THANKS GUYS FOR REPLIES!!
But also wanted to let you know i have a 12 year old boy that sometimes comes on the site his user name is harrisoncfc just thought your daughter might be interested to chat to someone going through same experiences i could always PM you his msn address,
Good luck with everything.
Welcome to the site, we only joined recently but so far have found it so useful.
At first we didn't tell anybody until Pete had passed the TRA then we told only our parents, I started to tell people slowly but think I was actually in denial until then I felt if I did'nt tell people it won't be real (hope that makes some kind of sense) also because it takes so long to get the visa's I didn't want the conversation just to be about us and oz when we saw friends. however everyone know's now, we just need to sell the house and we are off.
We have had many ups and downs with our children through the application, wanting to go, not want to go etc, and it has been an emotional rollercoaster and would have been so easy to just have given up on many occasions but stick with it.
