Hi everyone, i'm new to this site but just wanted to say hello. My names Sian and i've been here in Sydney 5 weeks so far. I visited Australia for 2 months last year and went on a 31 camping tour around Australia with AAT Kings which was so amazing. I also came to visit my best friend who moved here from wales 3 years ago. It was a real eye opener to a completely different lifestyle and seeing how much my friend Louise had come on since being here really inspired me to come back to Sydney on a one years work visa to see if oz is for me.
I am a qualified media teacher (College/tertiary age)and have been employed in th UK as a teacher for year as well as previously working as a teaching assistant and media technician for 5 years training students on using cameras and editing suites. But unfortunatly and to my disappointment I found life as a teacher too stressful and didn't cope as well as I thought I would have.

Really want a career change but not sure what else I can go for. As my background degree is in Media I would love to try this area but i'm aware how hard it is to get into this competative industry. Also I would love to try maybe a different position in education as I love working in the classroom and working with people and children especially delivering induction and training. I was thinking maybe student support services or at least an admin role.
So it was a big move, and I found it very emotional leaving all my family, but I feel excited as I know that Australia has so many opportunities to offer and I know that I have to try it otherwise I know that I would regret it.
At the moment i'm temping as a receptionist at a travel corporation which is good experience but not the greatest of wages, but I feel great that i'm getting out there and trying to fit in. Been applying for so many positions but with my visa status being a one years working visa I have found that people tend to think that i'm the stereotypical backpacker, so i'm restricted to what I can apply for even though I really am prepared to work and try anything.
I'm really lucky to have my friend already over here and i'm living with them in the Dundas area. Really hoping that I can meet more people and make friends. Please if you have any suggestions of possible jobs and links that would be great.
I really appreciate any advice and ideas that anyone has to offer and also any social gatherings so I can meet and make friends.
Thanks
Sian
