Gidda folks

Just to say hi to everyone and introduce myself.

I am a Maintenance Fitter and for the past four years have been trying to get my wife to commit to moving to Oz. We have two children a boy and a girl aged seventeen (twins). My son is serving his time as an fabrication engineer and my daughter is about to sit her AS exams and hopes to go on to do nursing or social work with children. All this makes it even harder to make the move even though my wife in her own way likes the thought of trying it and knows the time is running out on our permanent visa (May 2009). We have talked about me heading over first while my daughter finishes her A levels, this will be hard on us all but it maybe the only option left. So this is me and my predicament.

Just wanted to say hi and welcome to PIO!!

Can understand your predicament, its always harder when one of you is so keen and the other needs more persuading. I'm sure she can see the benefits there for all of you - its just such a big scary leap to make! If you already have your visa in place, then you owe it to yourselves to give it a shot after all the time and effort you have put in to get that far.
Perhaps you could persuade her to come on here and after chatting a while, we might be able to push her in the right direction for you!!!!

Good luck with whatever decisions you all make.

Hi Ian
We have been to Oz & Nz a few times and my wife liked the sunshine coast area best. I'm a little easier pleased and liked all the places we have been to. We didn't stay to long in Melborne only two days so it's hard to judge but it would be my least favourite. We have stayed in Perth, Adelaide,Sydney,Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Hervey Bay. I am heading over to the North Gold Coast in May to have a scout around and see what work situation is like in and around the Brisbane area. We spent the day on Bondi Beach for Australia Day celebrations and from the apartments roof top that was just behind Darling Harbour we watched the firework display. That area was very nice but I could not see us living there it was just too busy.

Hi Jill
Thanks for the warm welcome. How is your family all set for moving and do you have an area in mind you want to live.I don't think I will be able to get my wife on PIO she only checks her email every so often and ebay is the only surfing she does.

I hope you get word back on your visa shortly and everything goes well for you.
