moving to Oz

Hi, Davie & Kelly Here,

We are moving to Oz early next year and just looking for a few pointers really.

We are in our late thirties and have a beautiful 3yr old daughter. Davie is a carpenter/joiner and i am a housewife/mother, we are looking to go to Adelaide or Queensland.

Any advice anyone can give us would be greatly appreciated.
would like to hear from families with young children , was it a good move for your children, did they settle quickly, how are the pre schools, schools etc, is the reality as good as the dream. Do you feel quite safe over there, is their plenty to keep the children ammused, seems a great life for a child out there, would you agree.

Whats best Adelaide or Queensland ....... for family life and convenience, jobs schooling shopping, saftey Etc.

Sorry for so many questions, also wages dont seem very good compaired to Endland, does cost ofliving balance this out.

Thanks for your help.
K & D

Cant speak for Adeliade cause im in brisbane ,lol,,work wise your hubby shouldnt struggle securing work anywere around brisbane, theres plenty of jobs about in that trade.Safety wise i feel much more secure here than in the uk and it is a totally different and better life for the kids.My son is loving school ,its much more relaxed and 'fun'(in his words) to his old school,my daughter attends kindy 3 days a week and will stsrt school in January(oh yes and counting, lol)People are so friendly and genuinely want to chat rather than look at the floor as you walk by!we love life out here, good luck with everything

Hi
We hope to go at the end of this year and have had only considered Adelaide due to the climate, but now I am swaying towards Brisbane as OH is a Bricklayer and there does seem to be quite a bit of work going on there. Its really hard to make up your mind when you are on the other side of the world. At times like this the expensive Reccie seems like a good idea but can you really get a feel for the place while on holiday?

Its a big decision with no way of really knowing if you have made the right choice until you get there, but I suppose its all part of the adventure.

Good luck whatever you decide!!!

I dont think you can learn everything on a reccie but as long as you dont make the mistake of doing all the touristy things instead of doing research you should have plenty of time to narrow down your suburb choice.Drive ,drive and drive somemore ,not overly entertaining for kids (unless you bring in car dvd) but a great way to check places out,if you can financially do it ,i would

Hi,
Thanks for that, yea were the same, climate had swayed us to adelaide, but really like look of Queensland too. done a lot of investigating re: Adelaide does seem really nice and great for kids, but as you say wont really know until we get there, cant afford a recci so fingers crossed we make the right decision.Have you got your Visas yet, if so how long did it take.

Good luck with everything,

From Kelly, Davie & Maddie (3)
