Hi there yep another newbie

Hello there peeps, hope you're all doing fine. Ill just say a little about myself...
Im Rach im 38 OH is 37 got a daughter Sydelle who's 15 and a lil lad Wesley who's 11.
Im in my last weeks of a Social Science degree waaaahoooo cant wait till i finish!
OH is a plumber....and this is where my problem lies the oh!...Gulp here goes..
my oh is umming and ahhhing about going to oz the problem is you see hes black (afro carribean although quite ligt skinned) and hes born n raised in this town ( s****horpe) all his life and he very rarely gets any racists commets (he did when he was little in the 70's) hes worried that when/if we move to oz it will be like steppin' back 20 years.Ive explained to him that some parts of oz is quite multicultural, and no matter where we go there will always be some ignorant racists there whether it be uk or oz. The kids are all up for it.. its just a case of persuading the old man its going to be a long drawn out process.Anyway thats a bit about my life i shan't bore you any longer.

Welcome to PIO.
Im sure someone on here would be able to put your mind at rest about the whole racist thing in Oz - certainly would hope its not like UK 20 years ago! Think there was a post recently about racism, so im sure if you put a search in and see what comes up......
Do you think your OH is keen on the emigration thing other than the issue of racism or do you think he is maybe using this as an excuse? Not meaning to question you, but I know my OH made ALL sorts of excuses at first why not to move, think he just needed time to come round to the idea himself (without me nagging him 24/7!!) and he spent a bit of time on his own on the internet looking into things, and now he's the one desperate to get over there!
My advice would be: do a bit of research, maybe on here and just generally over the internet and then report back to him with your findings. Then let him stew for a couple of days before you begin the onslaught of nagging again!!!

Hiya and welcome to poms in oz ,,i have never heard racist comments whilst i have been here ,aussies are very forward speaking and will call a black man a black man ,but they dont mean anything bad ,us english are poms and always will be in their eyes,again no nastiness intended.I am in brisbane and cant speak for other states ,but here i dont think youll have a problem ,good luck with your plans

It could be an excuse as to the reason why hes in two minds about moving, what i need to do is get him to look on the net about oz, ive done so much research over the past couple of years and im keen as are the kids to get the ball rollin' before they shut the gates (so to speak).Like i said hes happy and content in his little world (self employed...goes fishing whenever he wants blah blah) and dosnt think long term which really annoys me aaarrgghhhh the thought of growing old in Scunny scares me to death lol
Ive been thinking of going on a reccie to sell the place to him so once my degree is over then thats it ill be on a mission!!

Just thought - there are alot of guys who use the site and certainly a few in the chat room on Friday nights - perhaps you can look at that together, may get him interested and being able to talk to other blokes about it could encourage him to take the plunge.

Thanks Ali i know what youre saying ..im going to have to wait till my degree is over then ill be able to concentrate on him fully.But at the end of the day i cant force him , hes says its my dream at not his

...ill just have to come over on my own when the kids leave for uni lol, im not giving up on my dream just yet !

Best of luck with convincing hubby as I am sure you will. It took my OH 10 years to persuade me to come to Oz. Now that I am here I wish we have done it years ago.

No, we cant make the Leeds expo at the weekend but we are going to the York meet on the 19 April, if you fancy that????

p.s. it was always just "my dream" too for years, but you know how persuasive us women can be....!!!!!!
