Thumbs up Brickie Bazza

Hi there

We are new to this but hope to talk to people who are going through the process of working in Oz or those who have made it there.

We are a family a 5, have 3 boys aged 13 and twins 10. We are all looking forward to living over there. The place we are looking at is Brisbane area. Can anyone tell us if there is plenty of bricklaying workin that area? What's it like working over there? Can you live on the pay offered? Have heard it is dear in this area.

Many thanks
Brickie Bazza

Hi Bazza
Im a carpenter and have been on this great site for months and months. We are going to sunshine coast and i know there is plenty of work at the minute around brisbane. The housing market is getting tight over there as is here. But plenty of work if you want it .Skills shortage to our benefit really.
We have a CO and are just waiting. You get used to waiting! We can wait for England we can! We are champions of waiting!Did I say there was alot of waiting? Sorry!!!!!!

Anything you want to ask just post on here. You will get a reply from somebody who is in the same boat as you!

Regards
Kev&Lisa

welcome to the information station that is p.i.o! i too am a bricklayer. i was over there (brisbane) in '99-00 and worked on the tools. the building is essentially the same as here but the main difference is the size of the bricks. they are about 10mm longer, wider and higher so they don't work to what you will know as brickwork sizes. the blocks are smaller-400mmx200mmx200mm so don't work to brickwork either! you soon get used to it though. anyways, i phoned the guy i worked for a couple of months ago. he is on the southside of brisbane and he says there is loads of work in s.e. queensland. he is paying $35 ph. thats the other thing, it seems to be mainly hourly rate rather than a measure. cheers, nyper
