WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
HI Nicky, we are still deciding on where to go - if we can go anywhere!!, but I'm thinking either Perth - or surrounding areas, or the gold coast. We are visiting OH's brother in Sydney in Dec, and will also spend a week driving from Brisbane back to Syd, so I guess we will have an idea of that area.... OH is still not going to make a decision on whether he wants to move or not until we have been... (can I wait that long???)
Have you looked into setting the kennels up as a business and going through on a business visa??? I have no clue how - but as you were going to do that here....maybe it's worth asking around?? Good luck!!
Hi Emma, I'm new to this site too and its great. I live in Tonyrefail, Porth, so not that far from you. I am currently using an agent but feeling very frustrated. My husband is a Painter & Decorator and originally had enough points, but now that somethings have changed it's not going that well. Still waiting to hear from our agent as to which way we can apply. Good luck to you though.
Just wanted to post a quick update........we went to Expo 08 in Leeds yesterday, came home with a really positive feeling and LOADS to read!! We spoke to a lady on the Government of Western Australia stand who was a mine of really useful info, asked her questions about housing, buying land, building, dogs, work and she was very helpful. We attended a seminar on the skilled migration program. Unfortunately we missed the seminar presented by the W.A. Gov as it was starting to snow even in Leeds at lunchtime and we're in the north of Scotland so we had to get on the road!! For those of you who didn't make it to Leeds, I really recommend making the journey to London this weekend.
Link for tickets & info is here: Opportunities Australia - EXP08 Mods, please remove link if inappropriate, I just thought it would be helpful!
Will maybe update again later.......13yr old daughter is adamant she is NOT coming
Nicky my 9 year old also said that but the pool, larger room, surfing lessons, pc in her room swung it....oh to be young ! what got me was 4 dogs thats gona cost a pretty tidy sum to get them all out there, i had kittens ( excuse the pun) when we got quoted £2200 for 1 medium size dog.......good luck hun xx

Thanks for your post Helaine, £2,200??? Blimey, now i'm officially pooping it! We'll just have to shop around for the best deal, we'll find the money for the dogs somehow, what's worrying me more is getting permission for four of them!
Right, I have a few questions, if anyone knows the answers i'd be very grateful.
Our credit score at the moment is not great, would it make any difference to our visa application if we waited until it was better, thus delaying our application?
We were wondering if it would be worth Craig going out earlier than me and the kids to find work, check out areas, schools, kennels etc. It would ease the stress of getting there all together and then having to worry about him finding work as soon as we get there, he could go as early as Christmas and if we get granted a visa come back for a few weeks to help us with the move. Is this worth doing? If so, which visa would he initially apply for? Would it help our PR Visa application if he's already lived and worked there for a while?
How easy is it to get a mortgage, what sort of mortgages are available and is there such a thing as a self-build mortgage?
Craig's wondering about his tools, he has lots of tools and the expense of replacing them all when we get there would be huge- would he be able to take them with him? They run on 110v with a transformer. It's all gobbledygook to me!!
I also want to ask roughly how long the whole process is likely to take and how much it will cost, but I suppose that's like asking how long's a piece of string??
Hi, We are pretty new to PIO as well. We have 4 children 3 dogs. Did have 5 dogs, cat, 2 tortoises, python, fish and guinea pigs but when we thought about moving to Oz started to thin out the pet situation. cant seem to get rid of the kids though. Very hard to say by to 2 of our dogs but at the cost of taking them with us had to get relistic. Be broke before we left. All paper work sent to Vetassess few days ago just got to wait now.

Hi again Craig and Niki, Had to do short thread as got called by wife for dinner. What dogs have you got, we was told cost was down to weight so we reluctantly had to let our bulldog go to a good home along with one dachshund. Keeping 3 Dachshunds ,also think we want to go to Perth and have heard the same as you about 2 dogs only. Did you find out if this is true, if so my wife will have to say bye to 1 cos my bulldog had to go and im not letting it hold us back. Do love the dogs but it is going to be a stressfull time for the family as it is saying bye to my mum, dad, brother and twin will be hardest thing ive had to do. Craig is a joiner same as me, i had my own business for a few years but sold it up to spend more time with family. thats when we first looked at emigrating, France and spain, no work to support 4 kids ££££. Then the language barrier. We always had in back of our head Oz then one day lets do it!
Past 5 Years done mainly carpentry, fitting windows, stairs, kitchens. Dont think id want to be stuck back in a Joinery workshop in HOT Oz. Did Craig get any response on tools as i was not sure if to flog it or take it!

I'll have to post properly later as i'm going out now but yes, if you want to keep more than 2 dogs you have to apply for special permission, not sure how difficult it is, something to do with how rural you are and you have to apply to the local council for the area you're looking at. (as told to us by the very helpful lady on the WA Gov stand at Leeds)
I'll post more when I get home...........seems like we've a fair bit in common, well, you men have anyway!
