Hi Paul. thanks for that will, get onto them, can you tell me where you an engineer? do you have any contacts I could perhaps get in touch with? or do you think I should have a word with my manager over here and see if they could help? Its so frustrating, especially now they have suspended the visa I would have needed, cheers for any help from Stan.
Hi Stan! Have you had any luck yet? My hubby is a B.T. Engineer and we are applying on a 136 skilled visa applied Aug 07. Where about's are you now & hoping to go to in Oz?
Hi thanks for sending your message, we are in Norfolk and hoping to go anywhere in oz, we have been told that the visa we needed was suspended in sept last year and are waiting to see what replaces it, is the 136 you are going for the one suspended ? if not what skill did your husband apply under? was it communication linesman? sorry for all the questions, do you know when you might hear about your application and where are you off to? my hubby will be 44 this year so have to work fast, I am a sen teachers assistant, but this doesnt count in oz, wish I was a hairdresser!! thanks again from Kathryn and Stan

Hi Kathryn, good to hear from you! My hubby is out a on very rare 'call out' at the mo as the weather is practically gale force today down in sunny Devon... So i can't question him about the application but i do believe they suspended the 136 in Sept but apparently replaced it with a similar one. He seems to think that it would help if he did a course in cisco networking before we go. It's not cheap though, costs about £1000 for a 6 day course. So hope it won't come to that. I'm a Nursery assistant & just started my NVQ3 in Early years do you know if that is worth anything?
I'm suprised your sen ta does'nt count. Do you have any children? Any idea's at all where you fancy going to? Will let you know if i find out anything more.
Hi Sandie, a very rare call out!, my hubby missed one yesterday as we were in the cinema, but he has got overtime tomorrow which is also very rare here now, I think it is the same all over the country for BT workers at the moment, I know they say dont rely on ot, but you have to really so it has hit us quite hard here, I have an nvq2 but as I say doesnt count for anything, unsure about nvq3 but it may help, what I have looked at though, you have to be a teacher to get any skills visa or points, I dont think the replacement has come out yet for the visa you are going for, should know by july, but I would just like to know one way or the other. We would probably prefer SA, but as I say would go anywhere really as we havent been before so are going blind, so to speak. We have 4 children 3 girls 19. 16 and 13 and a boy who is 10, the eldest will go to Uni sept in Brighton, but if we go out I think she would join us at some point, we will apply for all anyway. Thanks for getting back to me, you live in a lovely part of the country though already, hope to speak soon thanks again from Kathryn

My husband works for BT too. He has done 2 days overtime in the past 7 months or so.
You have to rely on some overtime as the basic pay they are on is ridiculous for such skilled workers.
As well as being skilled BT don't even give them any qualifications. So we are having to look at alternative visa options. One migration agent has mentioned pathway E to me if we can get his skills assessed here in the UK. She also mentioned that an NVQ 2 would help.
thanks zoe will look at the pathway e, i know it is ridiculous, they are highly skilled at what they do, and you are right the pay isn't great, please god the ot comes back soon!!!! cheers kathryn.
