Where do we start???

Hi,

My wife and I are wanting to emigrate to WA. She is a nurse and has family there. We have done a points test by an agency who advised we could get a 175 PR visa. Would we be able to apply without an agent easily and would it save lots of money excluding an agency? If so how do we start the emigration process.

Thanks for your help,

Lee

Hi Lee

Welcome to PIO.

Lot's of people apply without an agent, but I'm not one of them ....lol

Download the forms from the DIAC web site and see what you think!

hi there, my wife and i are both nurses, initially we considered using an agency however, instead we looked at hospitals in melbourne then emailed them direct. we were offered jobs, had interviews over the phone then things progressed from there. you will save money but you will still need to cover costs for medicals, all your paperwork/registration/visa itself etc. norry&leigh

Hi, the 175 route is the best in my opinion as it gives you PR status and you're not tied to a particular hospital. I didn't use an agent and things were pretty straight forward. I applied to the anmc first for the skills assessment and then did my application (you need a positive skills assessment), but some people have said it's cheaper to apply for your licence to practice first from the state you want to work in and then do you skills assessment with the ANMC (Have a look on the nurses thread for anyone who has done this)>

Hospitals are crying out for nurses, I emailed some direct with an expression of interest and sent my CV, I told them that I wasn't interested in sponsorship as I was waiting for my permanent residency visa to come through. I had a telephone interview and got offerred a post.

Mine was a paper application (before on line started) and it took 7 months from start to finish.

Good luck

Ali
