WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
I'm new to the forum. I am at the start of the process of applying to emigrate having considered it for many years! Being an only child I did not want to leave my single mum here in the UK alone, and thinking it can take about 8 years for her to get an aged parent visa we had given up on the idea!
Then we realised she could get the remaining relative visa, as her brothers are in Australia and once I get there she will have no other near relatives in UK. So it's back on again!
I think I know what I have to do regarding skills assessments and visa applications but any hints and tips would be most welcome.
I am a Podiatrist and we are hoping to settle in or near the Gold Coast QLD area as family members are nearby.
I am awaiting transcripts of my Uni degree and one more reference then I can apply for recognition and registration with the Australian Podiatry Council. Then I can apply for the 175 visa
However the Uni are taking soooooo long!
I feel this is going to take forever.
But I will plod on! Will be worth it in the end.
I have registered with the Queensland Gov Health website regarding jobs and regularly look at the Podiatry forum/Pod Council website/seek.com
Does anyone know anywhere else I can look for Podiatry jobs or know any Podiatrists in the area?
How have you guys gone with getting pets shipped over? I know about the quarantine but I'm wondering how your animals coped with it all?
And finally any good or bad experiences with removals companies getting your furniture shipped over?
Just wanted to welcome you to PIO. I know how you feel as I am also an only child which is one of the reasons I ended up in the UK in the first place (followed my mum) - I have been very lucky because my mum is being very supportive about our move but have put all thoughts of leaving her to the back of my mind for now! Good luck with the process.

Errrrmmm. Without in any way wishing to dampen your enthusiam, unfortunately your mother will not be eligible for a Remaining Relative visa. Parents are specifically excluded from this particular visa.
However, she would be eligible for a Contributory Parent visa instead and she would have that within a couple of years of being able to apply for it. Whilst waiting to apply, and then whilst the CPV application is being processed, there is no reason why your mother should not spend a good 90% of her time out in Australia with you, using long stay tourist visas for the purpose.
I don't want to overload you with detail at this stage. At the moment you are on the wrong track but all is not lost because there are alternative solutions.
Please come back to me if you want more information. In order to help, how old will your mother be on her next birthday and when is her next birthday (dd/mm/yyy)?

Actually, you are wrong.....
she is eligible for the remaining relative visa because her brother is sponsoring her not me. As soon as i get permanent resident status she can apply as she has no other "near relative" in UK. To get the remaining relative visa all your near relatives have to be in OZ and (which is where your confusion about my post probably arose) she can be sponsored for the RRvisa by either her siblings (both her brothers are australian citizens) or her parents(actually now deceased so sadly unavailable!). I know I cannot sponsor her for this visa (but yes i would be able to for the parent ones after 2 years). But I can provide the assurance with centrelink re financial standing as long as i am in employment.
As it states on the website the remaining relative visa-->
This visa is for you if both of these apply:
you have a brother, sister, parent (or step-equivalent) who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen usually resident in Australia
you and your spouse have no brothers, sisters, children, parents (or step-equivalents) other than those in Australia.
In Australia (after I get there) she will have 2 brothers, 2 sister in laws, many many neices n nephews n great neices/nephews, and obviously one daughter.
In UK (after I leave) she will have NONE of the above!!!
So no enthusiasm dampened !!!! This has been confirmed by the aussie immigration dept.
Appreciate the advice given in good faith though!!
