I finally plucked up the courage to tell my parents this morning......they were great. They totally agree that we are making the right move for the children and are fully supportive. I had been putting off telling them this for weeks and in the end I needn't have worried so much. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and we can get stuck into the application process now. What a relief!!

That is very encouraging! We are also dreading telling the parents - my dad in particular. My parents are divorced, as are my husband's, so we will have to do it 4 times! Although my dad lives 100 miles away already, he is quite big on the 'family' thing - in his head, we are the Waltons... although that is far from true in reality! And I can hardly bear to think about leaving my son, although he is 27 he still lives at home and it feels like selling his home from under him. In fact I started a thread in General Dilemmas (Leaving adult children behind) and so many people were so kind and supportive - have a look at it if you can. We are all agonising about the same things...

hi lancashire lass i totally understand your situation my parents spend every day with my 4year old , we had to have i.v.f after trying for her for 10 years so the whole family went throu every step of the process with us. she is adored by my large family and i too was dreading telling my mum especially. we have just started the process but i have told everyone already so they have plenty of time to prepare and spend time together and enjoy it i also tell them whats happening with the planning so its not just like we've done a runner and dont care. my mum was brilliant and said it will break her heart but understands why we are doing it ,and they have even offered financial help. i do not want my daughter growing up in this violent lawless country so i will do whatever is best for her. it will also break my heart to leave my family and i worry every day if what we are doing is right but i cant see things being any worse than here. break it to them and ask them for their support. GOOD LUCK

EvieB......I have had so many sleepless nights recently where I have woken up in the middle of the night in full flow rehearsal of my speech to Mum and Dad. I woke up early this morning and thought enough was enough and I needed to bite the bullet and tell them. I phoned them straight away too say I needed to pop round to speak to them about something. By the time I got to their house I was a bit emotional and started crying before I even told them anything! Mum and Dad thought I was about to tell them that me and my OH were getting a divorce!!! Although Mum and Dad have given us their blessing and support I know it's going to be a major emotional rollercoaster ahead and I still dread the day that we have to say goodbye.

I have to say though that I have found this website incredibly supportive. Good luck with telling the family. Let me know how you get on.

Hiya Gwen

Hoping to go on a 175 - Independant skilled migration. Having said that though I have contacted a migration agent today to find out what our other options are. I'll let you know how I get on.

xx

He is a self employed General Builder. Had his own business for 10 years working on his own. That's where we have a bit of a problem. He has no trade qualifications and because he is a general builder he doesn't specialise in any one thing. We have decided that our best bet would be to try and get through as a Roofer on the TRA or as a Brickie on the VETASSESS. I'm waiting for a reply off a migration agent who might be able to guide us in the right direction.

Your OH is a Painter and Decorator isn't he? Are you going on an Employer Sponsored Visa?

We are going on holiday in April, when we get back we will have to meet up and compare notes. There are two other couples in Cleveleys, friends of ours, who are going through the same process so we can meet up for a drink somewhere and see how far everyone has got!
