Hi O'Reillys, and

Sorry not sure how you would go ahead being a nurse, but there are lots on here, so hopefully someone will come on and advise you further.

But in the meantime welcome and good luck with your process.

Hi o 'reillys
Glad to see we are not the only new members tonight. I am sure you will have no problem getting a visa with you nursing. I thinks nurses are in really big demand and you may get an employer to sponsor you before you go. My daughter has just started her nursing degree in Belfast and the university in Ballarat seem really keen to get her to transfer. We decided to use an agent, costs a bit more but helped us figure out our best options for a visa. good luck it will be worth it when we all get there. keep in touch and let us know how you are going

Hello & welcome to PiO!
Here's a copy of a reply I posted to a thread a few weeks back:

There are plenty of visa options for nurses, and it can be a bit confusing! Here's a link to the DIAC website with the various visa options for nurses:
Working in Australia as a Nurse - Doctors and Nurses - Workers - Visas&Immigration

I chose to apply under the General Skilled route, on a 175 Skilled Independant. IMO this is the best option for nurse. You can go down the route of using a nursing agency who will help with your visa application, get you a job, give you relocation expenses, but this means that your tied to that agency. Say you dont like the area, job or agency?! They tend to just offer 457 temporary visas. By applying for a Permanent 175 your free to work wherever, for who ever, and you don't even need to work as a nurse when you get there!

Here's the link with all the info about a 175 visa:
Skilled – Independent (Migrant) visa (subclass 175)
In order to apply for this visa you need to meet certain criteria and pass a points test. There's a points calculator on the site. You also need to pass a skills assessment before applying for this visa. It's pretty straight forward form filling for nurses, but requires a bit of document sorcing beforehand. Can be a bit frustrating waiting for the recults too! Mine took over 10 weeks, and that was without any delays! Here's the link to the ANMC page:
Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council - Assessment of Skills
If you have any complications with your circumstances might be worth contacting a migration agent, but to be honest the ANMC skills assessment and the 175 visa application are really quite straight forward, so it's worth giving it a go yourself and saving £1500, or whatever the agents charging!
As for jobs, I'm not sure which part of Oz your hoping to head to, but I regularly check the Queensland Health website for vacancies. I have noticed a few in your field. Here's the link to there page:
Nursing: Queensland Health: WorkForUs They're holding interviews for Mental Health Nurses in March, so might be worth you checking it out! The link with info on it is on that page.

Well, sorry for my book! But hopefully there's some usefull info there for you! Any problems or questions, just post on here, or give me a PM and I'll try & help as best I can!
Good luck!
Mags
x

Hi O'Reillys
My daughter moved to oz 16 months ago. She is a nurse and was sponsored by a hospital. She didn't use an agent, she just contacted an agency called Geneva Health. They found her a job in a hospital and talked her through every stage of the process so she didn't need an agent. Agents can cost around £2000. I am sure they are worth it but My daughter didn't have any problems and it was all straight forward thanks to the agency. I myself will be using an agency when we emigrate.
Regards
Rosie

Hi and welcome to PIO, 175 is the way to go if you qualify for the skills assessment - you'll certainly have no problem getting a job.
