Am I mad?????

I am 34 years old with two children - 15 and 5.
My husband and I have decided to change our lives completely and live in Aus (a place we have never been). I will be giving up a good job in IT as an office manager to study in Australia to be a hairdresser and start up my own business.
My husband for the time being will be at home looking after the kids

My main concern is my 15 year old who we haven't told yet. We plan to go next June after she has finished her G.C.S.E's but so scared she will refuse to come.

Anyone with similar age children got any advise or stories ?????

Of course you're mad!! Aren't we all?? lol
No seriously I think as its been said many times on PIO better to have tried & failed than never to have tried at all!!
Mind I have heard that it takes years to be able to start up your own buisness so amke sure you research that possibility thoroughly. I'm a hairdresser & when we visited at the N. Yr they seem to be crying out for hairdressers & theres a lack of freelance hairdressing too, thats what I do in the UK but fancy re training to do something else when over there!!

When you train to be a hairdresser my advice would be to aim to train thro' a big company that invests money in training, shows competitions etc. That way you'll get the most diverse skills & if you're into IT your forte could be management etc.
As for your 15 yr old (ihave a 14 & 8 yr old) let them know of your plans asap.
My 14 yr old still doesn't want to come cos of the friends thing but as its been well over a year she's resignd herself to it!! Mind the reccie helped & now my 8 year old can't wait.
Good luck any help pm me.
Where you hoping to live? We're heading for 40 mins south of Brissy
Michele

Thanks for the advise.
I'm not going to be able to train in a salon as it is a student visa that we will be going on. However it should only take 2 years to train and will include a certain amount of beauty as well. I would hope to get some experience in a salon after the two years and I had the same thought as you with the whole management thing.
We've just got to choose an area first. We are thinking of Brisbaine but we're not completely decided yet. Originally looking at Perth but it seems to be a bit more expensive to rent/buy.
When you did your reccie, what did you do? did you go to several different areas or did you already know where you were going and did you take the kids with you?
Any ideas of what you want to re-train in?

btw - I told my daughter this afternoon. She cried and said she wasn't coming but when I told her it wasn't going to be for another year and her boyfriend can come and stay and I would think about her getting her tongue peirced, she managed to break a smile.
So much to think about though and sort out and I am sure it will be a rollercoaster ride from now until we finally make it (hopefully)

Thanks again - I feel relieved that I have told her.

Yep

mad as a box of Frogs
so you are in the right place

Absolutley right to tell your DD and bribary and corruption are a Mums best friend
At least you will be going before she is 18 so she will continue her education and will make friends very easily.
My DD is 18, she did her A levels last year and then deferred her Uni place, I do not know if she will come with us to take up a place at Melbourne or stay and start Uni here in Sept, all I can do is hope she chooses to come with us and make a go of it, I don't think even she knows what she will do until the reality of us actually going hits home

keep talking to her and GOOD LUCK
