Hi from a newbie in Cambridgeshire!!

Well first I have to say "What a great site!!". Its great to find all this information/advice from other people who have/thinking about/in process of emigrating to OZ.
My husband and I are in the early stages of thinking that we would really love to do it but dont know where to start.
Our close friends moved over to Cairns last year so we are going to spend 2 weeks with them in October and also a few days in Sydney.
My husband is a qualified carpenter and has been in the trade with the same employer for 13 years. He is 30 years old. I am a 26 year old nanny/nursery nurse.
We have a one year old daughter. From what Ive read I think we can apply for a skilled visa for my husband.
We have owned our own house for a couple of years but after payng off bills/car, move etc, we wouldnt have a great deal of money left over to bring to OZ.
Do you have a certain amount of money when you move out?
Also can anyone give us some ideas of where to start?

Hello Kylee

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

Yep. It sounds like you would be eligible for skilled independent migration to Oz.

The information can all be read on the DIAC website, though the website does take a fair amount of getting used to, because you will find that it does use a fair amount of jargon and at first one thinks, "What in the world are these Roos on about?" But if you persevere, you will get the hang of it.

That is the crucial sentence in your post. Please see the links below:

Is your occupation in demand? - Workers - Visas & Immigration

Carpenter and Joiner 4411-11 - Australian Skills Recognition Information

Skilled – Independent (Migrant) visa (subclass 175)

Australian General Skilled Migration Booklet

http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/genera...ical-test.html

PM Nigel Williams and ask what was involved, I suggest.

I'm sure I've seen a thread by a chippy giving a detailed description of what was involved. I will hunt for it. Please prod me in a PM in a couple of days unless I've posted it it up for you by then.

Best wishes

Gill
