Hi All - another Newbie !

Hi there!

We're a family of 3 - Dave, Marion and our son Jonathan who is 9yrs old. We currently live in Devon and are hoping to be able to immigrate to Adelaide in the next 18mth - 2yrs.

I have just been looking at some of the photos on here - PLEASE tell me where the HUGE absolutely scarey snake was seen! I am absolutely terrified (my worst worst fear in life) of snakes. Seriously - it is the only major problem for me moving to Aus. If I saw that thing I would DIE on the spot!. I totally freaked out just seeing the photos of it - so bad I am sitting here in shock!

Anyway once we have moved to Aus we are really hoping to make some nice friendly people who we can socialise with as a family - i.e. family bbqs etc. We love the outdoors and I'm really looking forward to hopefully have a swimming pool.

Look forward to chatting to you all at some time on the forum.

regards
maz

Lots of good advice and great people (well apart from a few of the male members, especially those who post 'orrible pics or videos)

Mmmm - don't wanna see any more creatures tx!

hi all,

tx for the messages :)

I have just been on the "BritishExpats.com" forum and there is a story on there about a python that ate a little dog the other day - as the poor little kiddies watched in horror!

If I continue to see threads about these horrific creatures - I'll be thinking twice. I read previously on the BritishExpat forum that you are not allowed to kill snakes! Well if one was in my yard I'd call the snake catcher or have a few garden spades around the yard and get Dave to chop it's head off. "The only good snake is a dead snake" as my grandmother used to say.

I'v been on the net nearly the whole day and sick of starring at the screen now - so might call it a day in a bit.

but tx again for the replies

Hi Maz

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

Don't worry - the python that ate the chihuahua was somewhere towards North Queensland. Cairns way, I think.

The huge spider that someone mentioned earlier was also in QLD.

Both are tropical beasties (as is the northern half of QLD) whereas SA has a much more temperate climate, so don't worry!

Best wishes

Gill

Hi,

Welcome to Poms! I also hate snakes (and spiders) and freaked when I first saw that pic. I'm slowly bringing myself round to the idea that I will probably come across them when we live in Oz. I'm sure I'll still have a pink fit when I come across my first, but at least just the thought of it now doesnt make me feel sick!

Lou
