Red face Hello from Yorkshire Brickie and Family Preparing for the Big Move

This is my first post ... I have been reading PomsinOz for some time now and I cant put a price on how much help it has been, everyone seems so nice and helpful and I hope that I can help others too with my experience of the wonderful world of emigration.

Hubby is a bricklayer,I work 2 days a week as a support analyst (posh word for dogsbody) and we have a 21 month old daughter and Hugo the chocolate labrador and like others on this forum, want a better and safer life and future for her, and the politics of the UK just drive me mad, can hardly watch the news anymore, shame as I think England is a beautiful country, but what will it be like in 10 years time? We are just waiting for Steve's 175 visa - had medicals done and police checks January this year and hope visa will arrive by the time we go on our reccie on 20th April and validate, although looking unlikely. Planning to move to either Perth or Adelaide January/February next year. One thing that is really important to us when we go to Oz is work for Steve but also for me a social circle with other expat wanabee yummy mummys (reality harassed, disorganised and forgetful new mother) and kiddies, I (and daughter) are quite sociable and worried about being lonely out there. Has anyone had good/bad experience when they moved to Oz and any recommendations or stories to tell.

If there are any Yorkshire PomsinOz wanting to get in touch and/or meet up, let me know. I live in Halifax, West Yorkshire and would be so nice to meet others going through this amazing visa process. A problem shared is a problem halved and all that !!!

Hope to get replies ... many thanks in advance.

Amanda (37), Steve (35), Maisie (21 months) and Hugo chocolate labrador (8 year old and almost 8 stone)

Got skills assessed which came back positive and prepared draft visa but now told need more points so hubby got to do an english test. Just wanted to say hi anyway.

Hi and welcome to PIO

We are heading to Perth and it has been a struggle to come to that decision as we had so many thoughts about different places.

Our house has just gone on the market today and we are waiting for a yes or no decision from our CO.

There is a meet in April taking place in York if you are interested you will get to meet lots of people in the same position as you.

I have found this site to be a great way of meeting people and making social networks before you arrive, if you are able I would say hang around the site and get to know others that are making the move.

good luck

We originally decided on settling in Perth and spent ages looking up on areas and thought about Butler or Secret Harbour or even maybe Rockingham but then looked into Adelaide and obsessed with looking at areas there, Happy Valley, Seaford, Woodcroft etc etc and now completely confused. We are going in April for just less than a month to Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne although for some reason I do not fancy Melbourne. We were going to look round Sunshine Coast too but I think the weather will be too
hot for hubby, the reality of working outside in such humidity and heat when he is one of those people who looks at a cloud and burns, although it looks an absolutely gorgeous place to live. Probably get to Melbourne and fall in love with the place and found not done enough research beforehand!! So difficult, but I suppose we are really lucky that we are able to visit and see if the image in our minds of these areas are the same as the reality. When we have been I will put a long post with my views and experience.

Hi Amanda & Family

We're from Halifax and currently rent an apartment at The Royal (the old infirmary). Any chance you can move to Melbourne, that way your husband can give me a job as we're off to Melbourne for me to retrain as a Brickie.

Good luck for the future

Jim & Rachel

I would love to but unfortunately I will be travelling back from Glasgow on 19th April (sister in law getting married on 18th April) and getting ready to fly from Manchester to Perth via Singapore on 20th April - tight or what but didn't have a choice. Just hope flight from Glasgow isn't delayed. Maisie is 2 on 18th May so have to be back in UK on 17th May so we only have to pay £200 flight instead of £750 and wanted as long as possible to look round. If there are any other meet ups I would love to join you.
:)

mutikonka will become famous soon enough
Hi I'm from Yorkshire but already here (Sydney). Can't help much with questions on the application process as we came here as backpackers, bascially.

Still, I'd highly recommend the place!
