Smile HI new here! Visa Questions

Hi all....The family is really contemplating moving to Australia from the U.S and I hear the Visa process can be long and very expensive. Does anyone know just how much a skilled visa will cost my husband? If not, maybe a round about number. Can he and I apply for a job there before the visa is approved?? Thanks a lot. Judy

Hello Judy

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

You really need to start with the DIAC website to find out what your opetions are.

Please see here:

Department of Immigration and Citizenship
They publish some good information booklets too, which are here:

Information Booklets - Applications & Forms - Visas & Immigration

Read the forum carefully as well and sing out as when you have questions. As yet, you have not given us enough information about what Hubby does etc so it is not easy to suggest visa-charges.

It is a real slog to get to grips with the DIAC website but if you do some research of your own you will hvae an idea of what questions you need to ask.

Best wishes

Gill

Thanks Gill,

He is actually a pipefitter here in the U.S. He would be working in plumbing there. I don't think they call them pipefitters there. He does do contracting work as well and I would be looking for a hospitality job. Food server/bartender. We are very confused on the visa process. He has printed out tons of paperwork and soon will be doing the visa app online. We are getting passports next week.

6,000 u.s dollars to fly the family to Australia from here! Not to mention our dog who we are definatley bringing! He says it will cost him about 4,000 aussie dollars for the visa, at least that is what he thinks. Ouch! But it will be worth it in the long run. I will go to those websites you mentioned to find out more. Do you think 4,000 is right? It sounds like an awful lot to me. Thanks again for the reply.

Judy
