Question Really confused but want to go so much!!!

Hi to everyone, don't know my way around this site so starting here. We have made the decission go go for it, worried about the visa process my husband is a head chef and can apply under the skilled workers visa and I am a technical/quality manager for a food manufacturing firm so I hope we will be able to find jobs out in Oz. One thing that worries me is the amount of money we need to move, cashe on arrival some people have mentioned 3 months living costs. Removal costs for our furniture how much will that cost, price of xrays and doctors report god my heads spinning. But we realy want to go and make a new life for ourselves and our 2 children. Can anyone give me some indication of whats it costs and what its like to go through the whole process, not much info eh!!!!

Hi there, this is also my first time on this site! Can I ask you - have you been to Australia before?? Reason for asking is this - we "emigrated" to Oz 4 years ago and came home 4 weeks later!! In hindsight really regret coming back but it was a complete and total shock to my hubby - no amount of reading up could prepare him for how he actually felt when we got there. Like you, we wanted a new life and greater opportunities for family. I would really really recommend that you go on a holiday first just to "check things out". We didnt know a single soul in Oz and that really didnt help either.
As for the cost - we went through Pickfords removals and it cost £3500 for a 3 bedroom house move. The red tape of forms are a bit of a nightmare to fill in - you have to decare a value on every item!! It takes 8 - 10 weeks for your container to arrive - ours was still on its way to Oz when we flew home!!
I was born in Perth and am still desperately sad that we arent there. Best of luck to you, hope that your dream pans out for you - but please please go on holiday first.

HI Hobbsie

Thats a real shame about your husband and the total shock, we hav not been to Oz, but we have lived abroad before my husband was in the airforce for 12 years, so moving to strange places not knowing anybody is not unfamiliar. We are looking to move to Queensland hoping that Darren will find a job fairly quaickly tohelp with the settling in and expense, and then when kids are settled find one myself.
Just at the begining of the process but value any advice avaliable.
