chard is on a distinguished road
looking for relatives

hi to all,
in the 50s my fathers brother moved to aus as a £10 pound pom, after a short time he whinged like hell about the place, and gave up and came back to the uk.
several years later he returned to aus,and made a go of being there, several years went by and my parents lost touch with him, what part of aus he went to i dont know, now my mum & dad are dead i would like to try and contact him and/or his children/grand children.
his name charles carnell, wife elvira, two daughters glennis & stephanie, they were from newport monmouthshire, the 2 girls would be in their 60s/70s now.
i would like to contact any living relation to this family,as my 5 brothers and i are all getting on now and it would be sad if things were to just go.

any help would be appreciated regards david carnell.

Hi David,

I have done alot of geneology and i suggest the following for you as you cant begin to search Australia as Stephanie & Glennis are likely to have married and have different surnames now - chance of them still being a Carnell is quite slight and even if they are still Carnell - Australia is a very big place and you have no idea where in oz they may be.
I suggest to you that you check out all the old haunts for the family back in the UK - anybody that may have know Charles or Elvira or the 2 girls - check old address (where they use to live) they may just be someone around who remembers them and may even of had contact (even if not know may no of any area in oz they may have gone too) does that make sense - its very hard to explain in writing.
You could check and see if there is a electrol role (like the uk) for Australia and see if you can find any matching names that may pinpoint an area (similar to the search available on Search for People, Businesses and Maps - 192.com) which you can search in the uk with just a name.
Along with this you could try and see if there are any migration records (maybe held in London) for the time the family originally came out to oz.
The chances if Glennis & stephanie stayed in Oz that they now have family over here too although under a different name.
This is possible to be done and traced ( i would say from my experiences) but could take a very long time as you have very limited info at the mo
all the best
