First visit to Oz on 20th March

We are travelling to Australia on 20th March for a few weeks. We are flying out to singapore for a couple of days then onto Sydney for 5 days up to Cairns for 6 days and then back down to Brisbane for a couple of days before flying home. We are really excited about the trip but have a few questions.

Is it best to bring sterling travellers cheques and change them in OZ?

What clothing should we bring for that time of year?

Any suggestions of must see and do welcome............

Gail & John

xx

Hi guys,
have a faaaaaaaabbb time... When in Sydney if you get the chance, do the ferry crossing to Manly, climb the bridge if you like heights (oh said it was brill, i couldn't do it !!!), there is a market under the bridge (forgot what it was called), this was where i was happy !! The botanic gardens by the opera house, this was something i didn't do and regret it, and lastly The Blue Moutains really pretty, but too many flys...

Of course when in Cairns it's the Great Barrier Reef of course...The clothes i can't help as we went in a January, money it's personal taste but we took half oz dollar and half sterling to change...

Hope it's helped if not sorry....

Hi, and welcome to PIO.........
If you can tear yourself away from the shopping in Singapore, you must see Sentosa Island and Raffles for a Singapore Sling.
Paddy's market in Sydney is a must.....spent nearly every day there (yes, I am sad)
the obligatory harbour bridge and opera house...........take the ferry to Manly. I wasn't that impressed with Bondi Beach but you have to go anyway.
Haven't been to Cairns or Brisbane so can't help you with them
I would imagine your wardrobe will consist of shorts, t-shirts anbd thongs and then another set of shorts, t-shirts and thongs....in another colour of course.

We took half Oz dollars and the other half in sterling

Hope you trip goes well

Gill

Hi Gail & John

You don't mention if you are taking kids so bit unsure on recommendations. If you have children, would def recommend the following.

Singapore:

Hi Gail & John

You don't mention if you are taking kids so bit unsure on recommendations. If you have children, would def recommend the following.

Singapore: Night Safari; Sentosa Island (Swimming with the pink dolphins was a big hit); Raffles; Walk round the Esplanade, Duck Tour (kids loved it!)

Sydney: Trip up Pylon Tower on Bridge (couldn't do Bridge Climb as kids under 12); trip to Blue Mountains; Botanical Gardens,; Taronga Zoo; Manly on the ferry; Powerhouse Museum;

Brisbane: Southbank; Mooloolaba (1hr 10mins ish); Australia Zoo (1hr); Noosa (90mins ish!); Wet and Wild (1 hr); Sea World (1 hr); Sea cat Ferry trip up and down the river; Bike hire in the Botanical Gardens for half day;

The only place that we went that I def. wouldn't recommend is Surfers Paradise but that is only MY opinion, we were really disappointed with it so wouldn't go back. Everywhere else, we would def. go again.

A good website to also use is Reviews of vacations, hotels, resorts, vacation and travel packages - TripAdvisor and go on the forums there. I practically lived on it when I was in the planning stage.

Good luck - Joanne X

thanks for your advice so far. We are not taking the children whooooooo!! Just the two of us. We do have a barrier reef cruise booked but nothing else at the moment. We have some relatives to visit in Sydney. We may do the raffles and night safari in singapore, also we def want to do the australia zoo while in Brisbane but other than that we will see when we get there.
