Post Want to know everything

Hi,

Im just starting to look into moving to oz, with my partner and 2 children(girl 15, boy 2). Would love to know more about each city particuly Hobart, Adalaide, Brisbane and Perth. Would like to know things like groups and clubs for the kids, sport facilities both to particapate, and spectate. Would love to know about ozzie rules football, who are the big sides? is it played by juniors? Are there lots of local soccer clubs both senior and junior. Would also like to Know about the kind of courses available in schools for my daughter. She is very much into her drama and musical theatre.

My partner is a Holistic Therapist and i am Training to be a plumber(ACS registered). Would appreciate any help or advice on job hunting and which areas these would be particuley needed.

We are rearly look
I would very much appreciate any dialogue with any people who have or are seriously considering emigrating to oz.

Hi

I moved to Adelaide in April 2007. It is quieter than the other cities and is family focused, or certainly the suburbs seem to be further out of the city. We are about 20mins from the city centre where we are.

I am not able to comment on the work situation as the needs fluctuate so much. I am a teacher and there is precious little need for us from what I can see although Oz immigration would have you believe there is a big shortage. That being said the current teachers in schools are mostly old and many of them will be retiring soon so it is clear that we have been stockpiled although what we are meant to do in the meantime is beyond me...

The main job site I am aware of is Job Search - Australian jobs - Job listing - Find a job - CareerOne so have a look on there to give an idea of the situation in your job.

Sporting facilities at schools are amazing and the funding of it in state schools is truly impressive...my hubbie (also a teacher) had a few weeks as a PE teacher last term and was told that the budget for the PE dept is £5000 (approx). At his last school in the UK, he was the PE co-ordinator (primary schools) and had a budget for the whole year of .....£250!!!! No wonder we have limited world class athletes.

Sports clubs etc and other after schools clubs/ activities are important here. There are lots to choose from.

Dance/ drama etc are all very popular in schools and I have seen some good facilities for kids. You would have to go round the schools and find one that you find is particularly in tune with what your daughter needs. There is no uniform curriculum here and so the details are dependent on the teachers.

If there is more info you would like, let me know exactly what info you want answers to. This is an idea but a bit vague.

Good luck

Libby

Hi Libby,

It's hard to say exactly what i want, Is there perhaps a web site which gives lots of information on the suburbs of adelaide similar to Brisbane.com.

We want somewhere Quiet but not somewhere that is to secluded we want to be near the beach, near parks and greenery and also a sensible distance from the main town. We would like to be able to access local products, but sadly we still want the convenience of supermarkets.

I would love to know what you think are the best and worst things about living in adelaide.

Is it very humid and what are the average temps, what are the winters like?

Sorry to go on. Thanks very much for the reply.

Adam
