WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Been lurking for a couple of weeks so I thought I'd join and say hi. My husband and I looked at moving to Oz when we first met around 10 years ago and put the idea on hold due to lack of finances at the time (huge student debts to be precise). Once our son was born 4.5 years ago we decided it wouldn't be fair to take him away from our parents (they wouldn't be as bothered about us going lol).
Anyway to cut a long story short we started thinking about this seriously again a few weeks ago and we're now of the opinion why not? We only live once and we've got to do what's right for the 3 of us. And what's the worst that can happen?
So we'll be looking forward to speaking to you guys and getting any advice you can give and also imparting our own words of wisdom once we start learning something about the process.
Oh and we haven't told our parents yet. I'm of the opinion we wait until the visa application is in which may be a while if we need skills assessments before then.
We haven't decided where yet. There seem to be so many nice areas to move to. My husband works in IT and I'm an accountant so I think we'll be ok for jobs just need to decide where.
We won't be applying just yet as I'm just finishing my CIMA qualification inthe UK - 1 exam to go in March. Then 'll need to apply for membership but I think it will be easier to use CIMA on the visa than apply for RPL for my husband's IT experience.

Hi, Good for you! You only live once and if you don't give it a go you may regret it one day. We are originally from the UK but live in France with our 4 kids. We've been here for 4 years and although it was hard for the first couple of years (the language was a huge barrier) we got through it ok. All the children are fluent in French (I'm getting there....slowly!). We found that the younger the children are the easier it is to adjust. Our eldest daughter who was 9 when we came here found it more difficult to adjust but now has the best of both worlds because she is fluent in both languages. Our youngest was only 6 months when we arrived so he knows no difference. I have always wanted to move to OZ (for as long as I remember). I have a distant cousin somewhere out there! It came up in conversation a couple of months ago and now I can't think of anything else! I think Im' driving my OH completely mad!!! France can be a difficult place to live for a number of reasons. We have tried to buy a business here twice now and on both occassions have nearly been ripped-off. Luckly, we discovered this just before we signed the contracts! I am rapidly loosing interest in living here and my interest for all things Australian is growing at an alarming rate! I suppose the moral of my story is: You will loose nothing by trying but you could loose your peace of mind if you don't! Your both still young and only have 1 child. We have a lot of baggage (4 kids, 4 cats, 2 horses and 1 dog) to mention but a few! We made the move to another country and survived so we now have the confidence to do it all again. Best of luck to you, i'll look forward to reading your blog over the next few months. Regards, Caroline.
We hit our first hurdle but I'm sure there'll be more to come. I called go matilda who advised me it would be better to apply based on my CIMA qualification once I qualify in a couple of months. That's fine but I've been advised that I can apply for Skills assessment but shouldn't apply for a visa until I have a years post qualified experience. So it'll probably take around 18 months before we can apply for our visa.
It gives us plenty of time to decide where we want to go and we can now think about a holiday to suss things out before we go.
