WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi all, just a quick post to say "hi" after having signed up Would be rude not to ay?
So, by way of an intro... I'm Tony, work as a creative director in the web industry, live for my sportsbike and twisty roads.
The idea of a move to Oz is a new one on me... having spent the last few years planning a move to NZ, it seems my wife and daughter have changed their minds in favour of Oz's better weather for one thing. I'm still confused about the whole thing and having settled on Christchurch being our next expected place to live, I now find I'm looking at a huge map of Oz's vastness without a clue as to where to start looking
So come on then... sell Australia to me... the wheres and the whys.
Looking forward to being convinced, and having some banter with you Poms in Oz
Just wanted to say a big welcome to you and your family!
I am not in Oz yet and have never been either. We are moving over to Brisbane in september of this year. We chose Brisbane simply due to reccomendations from our friends and family who have been before. I'm sure I'll like it there but if not we'll try another place until we find one we do like....lol
Some people think we are mad but hay..............
Life is for living!
This site is addictive.......

Welcome!! Nice to meet you. I think you may have started a stampede with this one, or will have done eventually.
I'll give you a few pointers as yo why I want to go to Brisbane:
Climate - Might be raining at the moment, but at least it s a warm rain.
Beaches
Surf
Opportunity - Once i've found my feet there's greater scope to make a succesful business of my own
Adventure - The world is a large place. It would be shame to live it on one small dank, dark island ran by a scots man (i.e. Gordon Brown)
I do have "concerns" about life in the UK, but I feel that they should be left for another forum or anothe converation. This is about moving to Oz, not slagging off the UK.
Ultimately, I want a similar job, less hours and a better life style. More so I want better weather to enjoy the life style. I'm fed up on cancelling my rounds of golf because of bad weather and not being able to "enjoy the outdoors" because of the typical english climate.
Anyway, hope you can find what you're looking for.

Sorry to disagree - but Perth is beautiful, not too populated - i'm sure our guys in Melbourne and adelaide will chip in with positives too - get a pin and stick it in the map!!

Our choice will have to take more in to consideration... like where the best tracks are... I'm torn between Eastern Creek and Philip Island
Thanks for the replies so far folks - all input very welcome.
My sister lives in the Sydney area and while she loves it and it would be great to be in the same area, Sydney (or my idea of Sydney from this side of the world) just doesn't appeal. Not a big fan of city life at all and we'll be looking for somewhere semi-rural that isn't a million miles away from the city of our choice I guess.
Location choice is all over the place at the moment - not only are we finding it difficult to settle on a choice of town/city... we can't even decide on a state. One day it's Western Aus, the next South Aus, the next NSW and the next Queensland. Actually thinking about it we're narrowing things down... at least we've ruled out Tas and the Northern Territories
My wife's a nurse so we're hoping that she'll be able to find work pretty much anywhere, so I think the decision is going to have to be based solely on location relevant to race tracks... makes perfect sense to me anyway

My Oh, son and I are looking at Brisbane purely because I've been there before and loved it and as said althoug it's raining there at moment the sunshine is more constant. My husband has the same complaint as alanblockeley and has never played a round of golf since early December as the weather in Scotland is even worse then england!!!
I have distant family in Melbourne/Victoria and she says you can get all seasons in one day there which doesn't appeal to me as that's what we get here is bonnie scotland.
It's atough decision but just research then do a little more research then do a little more.
