Melbourne here we come....settling in advice?!

Hi everyone, what a brilliant site!
Just wanted to introduce ourselves really........
Myself (25) and my partner Niall (32) are in our final stages of the employee sponsored visa process. Timescale wise we are looking at mid April for our departure from good old blighty! Soooo excited but very nervous. We have such a good set of friends here and to be honest that's our main worry. We are both very socialable people but I worry about how we are going to meet like minded people. A few people have said to me that you must try to include yourself in a circle of friends as soon as you can to make your transition into your new life a success and I do agree with that, but how to go about it is a different matter. Does anyone know of any networking groups as such that we can contact when we land in Melbourne. My partner obviously has his job to go straight into but we have decided that I will not work for a few months so I can organise all the formalities of moving (rental property, bank accounts, furniture etc) and I am worried that I will miss home and my friends more than he will because I will not be as involved with everyday life as it were. Any advice on settling in would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
