Smile hello 2 all

This is a scarey feeling... I have been offered a job in Sydney (Surry Hills) and am trying to find out everything to help us make a decision.... R we mad, should we stay here in the UK where everything is safe and secure or should we up sticks and move to a completey new life in Oz....

We have been looking at places in East Ryde, Northbridge, Cremorne and Maroubra, they all look fine from here so anyone that can give us an insite to the areas or any others that would suit a family of 4. We have 2 boys ages 5 and 6 so schools r important too.

hi guys, cant answer your questions im afraid as we are off to brisbane, just wanted to say welcome to pio! there will be loads of people on here that will be able to help you! just one little thing though, why would you want to stay in uk? we are going to give our kids a better life etc. they wouldn't if we stayed here, and like i always say its better to have tried it, or you could end up regretting it if you dont go!! worst comes to the worst you can always come back!! good luck with what ever you do:)

Hi there

Welcome to Pons in Oz.

When you say that you have been offered a ob, do you mean that you already have a skilled independent visa that gives you Permanent Residence in Oz?

If not, and the deal is that a visa would have to be obtained as part of teh job-deall, which visa is under discussion?

The reason for my questions is that most employers seem only to want to offer a subclass 457 visa, at least to begin with. A 457 visa only gives you Temporary Residence in Oz, and with TR status, you would ahve to pay school fees in NSW or the ACT. I am told that the school fees would be abut A$ 5,000 per child per year.

Also, if you are to consider a move to Oz on a 457 visa, personally I would insist on the Contract of Employment containing an express term that the employer will sponsor you for a subclass 856 visa (which gives PR) after just a short period of probation.

For more information, please see the following links:

Best wishes

Gill

Perfect, yes the company will be applying for the 457 visa and i wil be on a 2 year contract that i can renew... I love the idea of short probation to get PR.. I will throw that one in the pot.....
