Brisbane - Which suburbs are better?

We are planning a move to Brisbane areas and are wondering if anyone can give us any advice as to which areas are safer etc with good schools. We have friends that have just moved to Ormeau but when looking at the houses they are quite expensive.

Does anyone have an idea where the goods schools are also as we have a 3year old who will be just school age by the time we get there.

Any advice on good family suburbs is welcome.

Take all the advice you receive with a pinch of salt (including mine :)). A lot of what you hear is chinese whispers and pretty inaccurate. When moving to a new town I've rented in the best suburb my money can buy then I've scouted around looking for somewhere right for me. You'd be amazed at what people tell you and then when you investigate it turns out to be complete rubbish. Its a big decision to get wrong... so do your homework carefully. Estate agents are amongst the least reliable because they're trying to sell houses they'll point you in the area of their interest and not necessarily yours.

The best advice you can be given is to drive, drive and drive abit more!! there are loads of lovely suburbs and many reasonably priced, obviously coastal and city are abit more expensive than the others ,you can always work inland a few km's,,

Hi I have to agree with Cal. How can one person really objectively advise you where yo live? After all everyone would live in the same town!! When we went over at N. Year we knew it was the Brissy area we fancied but we drove & drove all over from the NSW borders to almost Noosa, down the coast & down the Highway. We just knew Pacific Pines was for us yet our friends love the more coastal area of Burleigh.
Good luck, fuels cheap anyway which is just as well cos we went thro' some lol !!
