Smile hi new to POI

Hi to Everyone

First posting so go easy on me. My hubbie and me and our 2 boys have decided to take the plunge and are planning to escape to Perth. We have got an agent and have paid an initial fee last week but have yet to hear anything.
Does anyone know how quick things get going once an application has begun?
I am applying on a skills visa by my hairdressing qualification, are there any hairdressers who have done this and know what process is involved?

Probably have another million ? to ask. very nervous and excited, would love to hear from anyone for advice etc

cheers to all
Aareth

Hi and Welcome to PIO

Sorry cant answer your questions properly as the whole Visa process is really Random at the moment. Time lines are all different.

Funny enough had to speak to our agent today and give them some news, and they said that they have hairdressers at the moment and that immi are asking for 900 hours work experience from them as well as other qualifications. Not sure what it used to be though! They also said that they used to get approx 3 Visa passes a day and currently they are getting one a day!! So the whole Visa processing thing is anyones guess at the moment.

Oh well keeping us all on our toes I suppose

Good luck and hopefully there will be other hairdressers on here that can help you more

Hi Aareth,
Don't know much about hairdressing apart from the fact that I now need to visit more more often to hide the grey - this visa lark is taking it toll......

Anyway, just thought I would welcome you to POI - happy posting and good luck with your application

Gill

Hey Guys

Thanks for all your replies, you've made me feel really welcome.

We live in Polesworth, a village in North Warks, so if anyone is in our area please keep in touch. There is me , hubbie and our 2 boys hoping to go to Oz. I have 2 brothers in Perth so thats what based our decision to go there. They have been out for 15 and 10 yrs. I was there in the early nineties and had the chance to stay and get residency but came home!!!!!!! We have talked about going for the last 2 yrs so now my age means is now or never!!!

Does having family affect your visa app and why do the visa companies push for skilled applicants rather than relative sponser? We quite like the thought of Adelaide as well, so my next question is if you choose 1 place can you change your mind?

Just another quickie ?'s cos i am really dim!! what is a 136 STNI and do you have to have a job to go to or can you chill before looking for work, oh and can you go self employed?????????

Sorry in advance and bless all who attempt to answer the above,

I never realised I had so many concerns. Is this normal

cheers all

Aareth

Hi Aareth,

Hope I can answer some of your questions.

136 STNI is a state sponsored visa, you have to say in that state for 2 years - for example if your occupation is in demand in Adelaide and you have an STNI visa you have to emigrate to Adelaide and reside there for at least 2 years.

Basically, you need to decide if 136MODL or STNI is best for you - We were initially going to Adelaide on a 136STNI then we decided on Perth instead but opted for the 136MODL so that we did not have this 2 year tie-in. I don't think there is much in it in terms of which of these visas is the quickest to obtain .

With a skilled visa you do not have to have a job lined up although having a job offer can speed up the visa process.

There are certain rules about self-employment, someone here should be able to help answer this question for you.

I am not sure if having family there actually helps the visa process (unless they are sponsoring you) although on the visa application there is a section where you put residing family so it may help. Again someone with more knowledge on this will hopefully answer.

Hope this has helped. Good luck with everything.

Karen xx
