Question Help wot schools & where to live(melbourne)?

Hi can anyone help with what are good affordable places to live for young family of 6 in Melbourne. Coming over on student visa whilst hubby does air-con course so have to be self-sufficient. Money big issue so needs to be reasonable rental prices also good schools for 10 & 9 year olds? Have liked the look of Geelong and Frankston do you think this are commutable to CBD by train? Thanks everyone this is such a brilliant site!

Hi Guys
After much research and info and opinions from many on here we found that lots will tell you to go to Mornington but apparently some of Frankston can be quite rough, and i think your over an hour into CBD? Geelong is roughly same travelling tho maybe not quite an hour, have you considered point cook area thats down the west side between Melbourne and Geelong and only 30min train ride? we,ll be going over on my occupation as a nurse but my OH would like to get a trade could you give me any info on the course your OH is doing and does he get any money while doing it? From what i gather renting seems a fairly decent priced idea tho i know that even rental prices have gone up but you,ll get something defo, i must say you guys are brave doing the student visa with your kids and all, i think its great good for you hope it all goes well

HI, Wespent the last 6 weeks doing lots of research and personally we found Berwick an ideal place for young families.
House prices are not too bad if you are buying and the rentals are equally as reasonable.
There are also a lot of schools in the area to choose from.
Hope this helps.

You might want to check out the fees that you will have to pay for your kids' schooling - in ACT they are $9.5K pa per kid for the dependents of a self sponsored student I would imagine that Vic will be similar.

Hi thanks for the info will def look into point cook. We enrolled on air-con course via education consultant in Oz. But basically it is a 2 year course which costs approx £7000 with full qualifications at end. The down side is you do not get any help financially and must be self sufficient, as well as paying school fees!! You can work 20hrs per week plus school hols.
I know we probably sound mad but we have been trying to get to Oz for nearly 5 years and after another 2 kids this really does feel like our last attempt!!
The plus side is we are renting our house in Uk so can come home at the end if all goes pear shaped but still come away with a trade.
Hope that helps

Here are the school fees that you will need to take into account as well Tution Fees - International Students - Study Victoria Must say that Vic has far and away the clearest site for these things!
