Question Some good advice please....

Hi all,

I'm currently a student nurse and are seriously thinking about goig to oz once I'm fully qualified. I'm married and have got three young children. I really like the sound of the goldcoast but havn't got a clue where would be the best place for the children to grow up, don't really fancy a large city but would need to be able to find work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm still along way off moving but as I don't have the first idea how to go about it all need to do alot of homework first!

Many Thanks

Amanda

Hi Amanda

Well you have already made a good start by coming online to this site - there is plenty of people with good advise and information on here.

It depends what kind of lifestyle you want for your children, i too did not want the city life but on the other hand wanted them to have good social lives. So we are choosing the gold coast as brisbane is only about 60k away so its still reachable!

Hi Amanda,

I'm sure you will get a lot of help here on PIO. Gill (Gollywobbler) seems to know a lot about the visa side of things. Although that is something probably best left until nearer the time as it keeps changing. From what I can gather, nurses are wanted all over, so I'm sure you will find work near where ever you fancy going. You are obviously doing the right thing by researching first. All I would suggest is keep an open mind and look at lots of different areas as you have plenty of time and may change your mind more than once before you go. I know we have!
Cara

PS: Wanted Down Under can be a helpful programme to watch, but bear in mind that details aren't always accurate and can be misleading when your circumstances are completely different. It is good for getting an idea of what the areas are like visually though.

Hi Amanda
Im a nurse hoping to locate in Queensland. Im not using an agent as they cost a fortune. I would advise you not to go with one of the nursing agencies you know the ones advertised in nursing standard ect. you can get tied in to a job and if you dont like it or the area your stuck. Im waiting for my registration with Queensland Nursing Council then I will look for a job while my skills assessment and visa are processed. I would apply as soon as you qualify as it takes ages dont worry about having no experience as you will get this while you wait. Do as many courses as you can in the meantime. Im sure I will make loads of mistakes on the way, so if you need any help just post me and I will try to help. This site is ace though for advice there is always someone on here to help. Good luck.

Mandy - when do you qualify? If you're almost qualified you can perhaps explore graduate programmes for when you pass

Amanda,
I agree with Ali, when do you finish your training ?
I would start looking for a Nurse Graduate Programme now. You can find all the information online.

Good luck and let us know what you decide

Gill
