HI TO ALL AT POMS IN OZ......I have my heart set on emigrating started thinking about it last jan i have cousins in NZ and that was my first thought but now i am torn between OZ abd NZ ? i am a mum who is happy married with 5 kids eldest 18,11,9,twins 2 1/2 yrs we would be going with 4 kids eldest son in the army, we want to relocate as we are worried about the way things are going in Scotland and UK and we want whats best for our kids future no to mention nice weather and outdoor life stlyle.
looking for some help deciding where to go to bring up the family? do fancy Perth WA ? any ideas?
or NZ north or south?
please try give me some help to get us going in the right direction?
I really can't comment on NZ - i've never been although it is very much a place I'd like to visit. We live in WA and love it here, laid back, relaxed (and that's before I start on the wine lol).

We live in Leeming (sor), we're 15 mins from the city (10 by train), 20 mins tops to Freo and my drive to work (Armadale) is 20 - 25 mins, it's a perfect location for us, near enough to everything yet far enough away. It's an older suburb, but generally large blocks.
The wine is great and cheap!!

i always think that everything seems better when the sun shines and well i have chosen to go to aussie for that reason, did think of new zealand but dont like rain that much. i am choosing melbourne, perth is very british they say, dont really know never been. if i did want british though i dont suppose i would think of going to Aussie would i?
how far are you from getting to your melbourne dream?
have been looking at ridgewood are os south western australia looks great!!
has any one any advise on this area?
we have had the same dilema, we have been thinking about migrating for 4 years now. we went to a family wedding 4 years ago on the gold coast, which is beautiful while we were there we did lots of sight seeing and traveled up to north gold coast looking at houses and stuff. of course we fell in love with it and the fact we have some family already there helps. the weather is very good too even in their winter. people are indeed friendly.
our problem or mine really is my job im a community midwife and midwifery in oz is very different to here in the uk, so i needed to be in a place we loved but also in a job i would llike. Because of this we looked into going to new zealand, jobs are much better for me in new zealand as their midwifery is fantastic, so last feb we decided we couldnt just move without visiting so we went over for nearly a month and travelled all around the north island which is easy to do in a month with good planning. we didnt go to the south as we wouldnt want to live there as much cooler. We didnt really like Auckland, but then we are not city people but one of the best places ive ever been to was The Bay of Plenty, particularily Tauranga which is beautiful, the people were amazing, so friendly, from what we learnt crime rates are much lower around the bay of plenty, there are some fantastic houses and schools. the only thing this trip did for us was to confuse us even more, OZ NZ OZ NZ, both equally as nice.
i think if you like it a bit quieter then NZ is much less populated. we travelled miles and never saw any other traffic.
ive been offered a job in south brisbane, one which is similar to that in uk, we like the gold coast and think its an advantage having some family there just in case we need help, but even today ive still been on website looking at houses in Bethlehem Tauranga (out of this world). ive got older children and think they we adapt more to life in brisbane as my son is 19 and he was quite shocked by the laid back lifestyle in nz and no pubs bit different in OZ.
good luck with your choice, if my kids were yunger then nz would be at top of list
Thanks for that Tracey, Good luck with OZ, i have cousins in the north Wellington and Auckland ,and did love the look of Tauranga my self we did think about south island but like you the cold when looking at houses etc they all have stove burners etc, anyone from south Dunadin ? what is it like living in NZ?
As I understand it, you are better off applying for Australia, as people with permanent resident status in Australia can automatically get PR status in NZ, but NZ PR's are not entitled to automatic PR status in OZ.
The reason being that its easier to get into NZ, and it was used as a back door into OZ.
of course i your Australian application fails then there is always NZ
