Hi there
Welcome to Poms in Oz.
If you have
PR in Australia you can buy any sort of house - old, new or a block of land and have a house built on it.
If you have
PR and it is your first home in Oz, then you also get the Federal first time buyer's grant of A$7,000.
Stamp duty is quite high in Australia. Some States five first time buyers a stamp duty rebate but again you have to have
PR in order to qualify for it and I don't think all the States offer the rebate anyway. I don't know what QLD does about this.
Wanted Down Under only shows people the sorts of houses for sale in the area which are within their price range. It is not a guide to buying real estate in Australia.
Temporary residents and non-residents have to get the approval of the Foreign Investment Review board before buying a house in Oz. Their website is here:
FIRB: Foreign Investment Review Board - Home
For more information about QLD specifically, I am sure that other people on here will be able to help.
Best wishes
Gill
