Hi
I'm 44 (just lol), hubby is currently (he says) my toy boy at 43 (but that's only for another 16 weeks!). We have 2 children aged 12 and 8. We're not pub goers either and to be honest as we never had anyone to babysit and in a similar position here.
I haven't found Perth boring at all - it may be quieter than some of the other states, but to be honest that's what we wanted and we've found it. Having 2 younger children we find that alot of stuff we do revolves around family, we've been out socialising more in this last 12 months than we ever did in the UK. Personally, I feel that there's lots to do here, if you're into sport then you've got soccer, rugby, afl, cricket to watch, there's the burswood dome which has international acts on etc.,(but thank god they didn't book the spice girls). Rent has just recently been on at the theatre, there's tons of restraunts in the city, hilarys etc., and Freo is a great night out for couples as well as families. Mr. & Mrs. Braveheart have a 17 year old son, who they won't mind me saying wasn't keen on coming - they hardly see him 'cos he's out all the time.
WA has a population of about 2,050,884 with about 1,507,900 in perth and it has a wonderful climate.
Personally, I'd say come and see if Perth is what your after for yourself, it isn't for everyone and some people do say it's "a lovely place but boring or quiet" ... but that doesn't mean it there's nothing going on. We laugh now, because initially my daughter didn't want to come to Perth - she'd heard it was isolated and the lonliest capital in the world - she thought she'd hardly see anyone and that there wouldn't be any people here.
I can only speak for myself and my family and say that we've found it to be very relaxed here and are very content.
Ali
