Smile nurse/midwife needs help!

Hi all, we've decided to 'go for it!'....and we need all of your help please!

Im a midwife (fulltime) and occasionally do bank shifts as an RGN (gynaecology)....we're not sure where we want to go as yet (possibly sydney and suburbs/adelaide/or brisbane)

Im 39, hubby 44 and 2 boys 17 and 11....i understand that we will have to apply before oldest son is 18?...which is in the summer!

any ideas on whether i should get sponsered or not? and what do we do first? its very confusing!

how long will it take, how long will we have when we get the all clear in which to go (thinking about the house sale)...sorry if the answers have been already done...and finally...what kind of salary could i expect? ive been a nurse for 4 years and a midwife for 2 both full time

Thankyou all in advance

Hello,

First you have to get your nursing/midwifery skills recognised by applying to the ANMC. This takes a few weeks. You will need a transcript of your training from the NMC, this takes a while and you will need to keep check they have done it for you.

I personally didn't go for sponsership because there are ties and conditions. I applied for the skilled independent visa. See my time line. I did all the work myself and it was not that difficult. You are a free agent on this and it is permanent.

Whilst you are waiting to get your skills assessed decide what visa you want. You could read through the documents required and get them certified whilst you are waiting. It all saves time.

To get your documents certified you need to ring around solicitors and ask if they can do it. It cost me £5 for the first copy and £2 for every other. You will need to get some documents certified for the ANMC. So work out how many copies you will need in total to save you time and money. I had birth certs, marriege certs for change of name. You will need a work refrence from your employer ( not a typical refference. see note for guidance from the ANMC), certificates of nurse training qualification and many more. childrens birth certs and 2 photos of each applicant.

You will pass the points test easy. You can find more about visa options and how to apply from the DIMA website. Department of immigration and mulicultural affairs. I can't remember where you can get salaries from but you will find it if you do a google search.

it's quite daunting at first but it's not that difficult.
( I am a critical care nurse heading for perth...hopefully in a few months).

if i can help in any way send me a pm

good Luck, Sarah.

1 get your skills assessed by the anmc
2 fill in your application for a visa
3 get yourself registered with the board of nursing in the state you are heading for.

Hi Sarah,

I read your response to Nic's post. Lots of helpful info, thanks.I too am a midwife/nurse just starting out on the relocation process. I am applying to work in Perth. Just wondering where you are going to work. I am shocked at your medical fees. I am gathering all the paper work together for my skills assesment with the ANMC. The NMC were adament that I need to apply for registration with the NMBWA first, tats not right is it?

Definatley go for PR and the skilled Visa because it's so much easier in the long run. I'm an RMN, I contacted hospitals direct when I was waiting for a visa and landed a job before we came.

The ANMC will pass on your file from the skills assessment to any of the state boards so you don't have to duplicate paper work - you just fill in the boards application for a licence to practice - oh and of course fork out some more money.

Ali
