Hi Natalie
I'm sorry to hear this. I assume that the problem is that Hubby would not be able to get a positive skills assessment as things stand at the moment? This might change, though, so don't give up hope too easily.
Also, there ARE potential alternatives.
Please have a look at this list:
A-Z Occupations List - Australian Skills Recognition Information
Do any of the skills listed cover what Hubby does (irrespective of whether or not he has any formal qualifications in the field concerned?) If so, it is a start. If not, I've a feeling that even that may not be fatal.
I warn you now!!! I'm about to suggest that you wade through the DIAC website and see what other options might be available. This is Cold Towel Territory - you will need one (preferably pre-iced) wrapped round your heads because it is all
unbelievably confusing to start with.
However, if you go through it all methodically, things do become clearer, I promise.
Start here:
Workers - Visas & Immigration
Be sure to read any Booklets that seem relevant too:
Information Booklets - Applications & Forms - Visas & Immigration
On a different tangent, a visa (of last resort in my opinion) could be a Student Visa. I can't make head or tail of the student visa section of the website, but it is here:
Visitors - Visas & Immigration
Ask as many questions as you like and also ask more questions of Agents if any of the visas that you come across look as if they might be do-able.
Plus for inspiration, please see this link:
Poms In Oz - Search Results
Lynne had one heckuva struggle to get work in and a visa for Oz but she has been there for a month and the rest of the family are flying to Oz today to join her. She is the living proof that the seemingly impossible CAN sometimes be done. She is an inspiration and an example to us all.
Good luck
Gill
