Hello to all and Sydney here we come!

Hi
Just become a member after finding this website last night. Fantastic! I am absolutely over the moon as we have been planning our move to Oz for 2 years now, but have so many questions, which have remained unanswered. This site could be a godsend to us!

My husband is an Oz citizen (originally from England), so I am just about to apply for my spouse visa along with our 2 children. Not sure how long this will take?

We also plan to move to Central Coast, where house prices are a little lower than Sydney. Hoping that schools will be good for our children, but have not looked at this yet.

Anyway, hope to chat to lots of you over the next few months - All advice greatly appreciated!
Gaynor

Hi Gaynor,
You sound as if you are in the same boat as me,

I too am married to an aussie citizen (originally english) and also live on the central coast,
I arrived here with one of my 3 daughters (the other 2 older and stayde in the uk) on aug 5th 2006
i got all application ready to apply for my spouse visa (i did use an agent) and i applied on shore here in oz, i had an interview with a migration officer in Sydney on sep 28th 06 the same day that i lodged my application.
All went well and would of been granted temp spouse visa 820 the same day (the migration officers words) but she wanted another paper from my ex husband about my daughter that i had brought to oz with me.
This took a little over a week to sort out and then sent this to the migration officer who then granted my visa - all in all from lodgement date to visa granted 15days.

If i can help you in any way please let me know
wishing all the best
gizmo

p.s welcome to pomisnoz

Hi Gizmo
Thanks for your reply. Sounds like the visa process shouldn't be too difficult for us. I thought I would apply in England, for peace of mind, although the cost is double! Can you tell me a bit about the Central coast. We have 2 daughters aged 4 and 5. Where would you recommend, that is good for families. We have family in Budgewoi, but thought that this may be a little too far away from Sydney and a bit too remote?!?
Many thanks

Hi Gaynor,

Welcome to pio.

TRA is Trades Recognition Australia, which is the authority who check out qualifications, work experience etc. for those of us on skilled independant and state sponsored visas.

Thanks Mark - all starting to make sense now! We are going down the spouse visa route, so it was unfamiliar to me.

Hi Gaynor,
There are many beautiful places here to live on the Central Coast, Terrigal -Avoca- North Avoca-Kincumber-Erina Heights
- Tuggerah - Green Point- The Entrance the list goes on,
My hubby drives to Sydney for work and its takes him 1 to 1.5hours depending of what part of Syd he is going to sometimes longer if its right the other side of sydney.
The crime rate is alot lower here on the coast as over the last few months there have been quite a few shootings and muggings in Sydney that we have been reading about in the papers.
Can't really pick one spot that tops for families and there are families all over the coast and quite a few ex pats (but according to figures we are not unindated with ex pats here)
not quite sure where the figures were compared with !!!!
We have everything that you could need here on the coast except a main airport which is Sydney and Newcastle (about 45mins to Newcastle from where we are)
Our local shopping center is only 7mins by car and has cinema ice skating etc its at Erina Fair
There are lots of kids clubs around along with child care clubs too which makes it easier for working mums.
Please feel free to ask anything else you need to know
Have a great day
