We've Decided to Go For It!!!

Well, my husband is between jobs, I've just been told I'm being made redundant this year, our house is already on the market (has been for a year now!)... we've talked about it for years, but we've now decided to do it... we're going to Perth!!!!

Never been before, is that crazy to make the decision without visiting first? But my Uncle emigrated out to Perth in '89 and has never regreted it. So I have family out there, and cousins with children the same ages.

What I need to know is, what do we do first, sell our house, visit Perth, apply for a Visa, look for a job... help... I just don't know where to start??

Very Excited

Hi Julie and family & Welcome to the site!..it is exciting when you decide, but a bit daunting as to where to start..we've had our visa's for some years now, so i can't really give you any info on that..it changes so much..i would think that if you can manage a visit out to Perth it would be beneficial in that you'd get a feel of the place..it is a beautiful city, and i think there is lots going on and plenty of places to see..you could fill your time easily..i think it's just important to keep an open mind and remember your looking at it as far as living, and not a holiday..people on here will be able to help you with the visa and employment side, but i think the general opinion would be to leave the selling of the house until you get your visa..all the best for your plans for Aus..

Hi
Good on yer for making the decision. I would probably advise applying for the visa first (or at least getting advice as to whether you can apply) Because if you have not got a visa then you can't get in. We are off to Perth too although we have visited before. I do know of a family who moved there 18 months ago without ever having been and they love it and are very settled now.

Well you have already got the house up for sale, so you might as well go for the visa now and if you sell go into rental, that's if you can't live with any family...

You will love Perth, it's great for the family but if you are not sure and money will allow you go on holiday, would your family put you up??

Anyway GOOD LUCK guys

Hi Julie
I would get the ball rolling by applying for your visa first. I think your right on selling you house as that can be the hardest but the visa process is so drawn out it can take up to 18 months. Alot of people on here are applying on line and getting there visa processed quite quick but even so, You have 12 months when granted your visa to validate it. Good Luck

Thanks for all your replies... we are so excited about going.

I do have just one quick question, when do you have to hand over the money for the visa (I did say we've only just decided haven't quite done all the research yet!!).... it may be a case of having to wait until the house is sold to apply for the visa, can anyone tell me how much it'll cost???

Yes, I do have family, my Mum has agreed to let us move in so we can save a bit extra too!!

cost

Hi Jules2. We got an interest free for 12 months credit card and use it only to pay for the immigration charges, then we will settle it up with sale of the house. So far its cost us around £3,500. If all goes well it`ll be money well spent.

hi there

we are going to perth as soon as got visa's and house sold, we did everything ourselves as you can download it all of there web site but it depends which visa you are going for.

so go to an agent and see which one you can get i think am right in saying they dont charge for that but you will need to ring them,

as for costs it's just over 2000 with medicals but there are 5 of us and its fairly straight forward to do.

the only thing we hated is the wait we started in may and have been told should here by feb.

word of warning DO TELL ANYONE only those who need to know as this is a big pain in the a**e everyone asking have you heard yet been torture.

we have put our house up today so fingers crossed it wont be to long .

bye for now
julie and gang
