IELTS English Test

Hi, I am a british citizen and I was recommended to take an english test by my migration advisor although I am exempt from the test. Has anyone actually done this, as extra proof, or is it just a waste of time and money? My girlfriend has to take the test as she is german, and if it really makes a difference to the outcome then i would take it too.
Thanks
Danny

It gets you an extra 20 points regardless of your nationality, costs about £100 though.

My migration advisor said i would get 15 points automatically for being english and a further 10 points for taken the test and achieving a result of 7.0 or better. Where did you hear about gaining a further 20 points? Ive heard so many different opinions, its hard to work out which ones are correct?!
Thanks

HI Danny,

Was just writing you a post along the lines of your last post - your migration advisor is saying that your passport assumes that you have competent English and so can claim 15 points. But if you need to have 'proficient' English then you will need to pass the IELTS at level 7 or above - this will give you an extra 10 points. This changed as of 1 Sep - before you got 20 points for having the British passport.

Hi

Yep, it's exactly what Zoe said. I needed to get the extra points so I took the IELTS test last November.

I presume you need to get extra points otherwise your migration advisor wouldn't have told you to take it?

Best wishes

HH

Sorry, my mistake. The IELT will give you an extra 10 points giving you a total of 25 for 'proficient English'.

Boozy Sunday, it's the Yellow Tail (Oz shiraz) on special offer in Asda - very nice..
