Question new life or is it?

hi there, me and my husband visited oz about 12 years ago, and fell in love with oz, we are now married and have 2 young boys, i'm a hairdresser and know that there are plenty of jobs for me, but my husband may struggle, how are families managing with no mums/dads in laws, for example working school holidays, settling in with out family to help you out when needed like back home. have any of the children hated australia and wished you hadn't gone, anybody thought this was the life and you or your partner love it and you don't!!! i would love to go to sydney, but some of the reports have put me off, even though it was my dream, i don't want to get there and be dissappionted, has anybody lived in sydney and moved on to other areas because of it not being what they expected!!!
Please help emotions are all over the place at the moment, wish i could have a magic wand and just get there and for it all to be okay!!!!

I can't comment on Sydney really but we have been and do have friends there who seem to like it. We thought it was congested but then aren't all big cities?

Not sure how anyone can really say if you will like a place or not, if you like big cities then Sydney would be as good as any. The only way is to try it and see.

We emigrated to Perth 20 years ago, hadn't been there before and didn't really know anyone there. but we stayed for 17 years in Perth and 20 in WA.

We don't have kids and can only assume that if you have had support from your family that you will miss not having it, that's inevitable I think.

If your like us you probably aren't going to be able to settle if you don't at least try. You can always go back you know, plenty of people do that (known as ping pongers I think)

Wish you all the best in what ever you do.

Dave

have to agree with granite!

We went to Melbourne last year and loved it. Facilities for childrens are fab! and having red threads about Sydney would choose melbourne any day especially with young children! Im sure Sydney has lots to offer and many people will love it but with young children I would say you cant go wrong with Melbourne! We cant wait to get back! With regards to in-laws it will be difficult but if you make sure you make lots of friends and create and little circle of friends that you trust i'm sure you will soon find that there will be people to help!

Forgot to say and you do clearly know already.

But hairdressers are in such short supply that businesses are closing the doors. In our last town Albany WA they were in real crisis.

So don't be scared to name your price

gosh that has really shocked me!!! hairdressers here are shutting down because of everybody being scared to spend we have too many hairdressers here and not enough work for everyone, i own my own salon at the moment and am down 50% of my takings through other hairdressers opening 3 in my first year of trading, one of which has now closed down, but other salons try to out do you by being cheaper than you, there is no loyalty with clients anymore in the job. the u.k is going to the dogs, bet your glad when you got out when you did!!!

tht's reassuring to know, i am in love with sydney, but just don't know anymore. when are you hoping to go? we've just ben to see emigration specialist, but my husband is registered disabled even though he is able bodied etc, can work, drive etc. but we are hoping this won't go against him so we're waiting to see if he will definately pass before we continue.Fingers very crossed, if not our dream is over!!! but i know life will be better than here, just praying it goes okay. have you had any traumas?

down under by july ....we hope!

We hope to be in Oz by July ish time! Providing house sells! We have someone coming back for a third time this week - all this cleaning up is driving me mad so cant wait to finally get a offer on the table! No major troubles with move am lucky to have married a Ozzy so it is easy for us compared to what some have to go through. Only dilema is my mum...she is not 100% aware of our intentions !! When we spoke about it it caused too much heartache and Maddie our eldest was dragged into it...so have decided to leave it on the back burner for at least another month...when I do tell her i have a feeling it will put a strain on our relationship! But hey you have to think of your children, well that is the way i look at it! Good luck with your visa I hope your husband gets through...I will cross my fingers for you! x
