WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
I been feeling sad all day. My hubby is going for the a job in the police force in south australia. Heard some not so good reports about them. Im sure it cant be all that bad. Please can anyone cheer me up tonight and give me some positve vibes?? please...
Hi, I know nothing about the police, sorry! but wanted to reply and cheer you up!!
I met a Dutch boy with inflatable shoes last week, phoned him up to arrange a date but unfortunately he'd popped his clogs.
Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly; but when they lit a fire in the craft, it sank, proving once and for all that you can't have your kayak and heat it.
I went down the local supermarket, I said "I want to make a complaint, this vinegar's got lumps in it". He said "Those are pickled onions".
I saw this bloke chatting up a cheetah, I thought "he's trying to pull a fast one".
Does that help??????? I'm sorry i cant be more constructive, i hope someone has some positive news for you.
Hi Tori, Cheer up - it can't be that bad or people would not want go to work there. It's so easy to remember the bad things that people tell you!!
Didnt mean to put a down on things. Put it this way, between you and me and the rest of this forum lol maybe my bruv in law is abit of a stick in the mud!! And a bit of a bossy boots lol and cause he werent in charge or on a high rank he didnt like it!! He specialised in a certain method of policing here and they did not do things the same in Oz he thought they were way behind the times and wanted to take charge. When we met his fellow police officers (all poms) some of them were happy in their new roles and wanted the more laid back approach.
Did you see the Wanted Down Under programme this morning? The lady was met police and she was on her way to work for Perth police and liked it.
When you read these threads it's not just the Police force that have different ways its most trades too and its not a peice of cake to walk into a good job.
The husband on the Wanted Down Under programme said 'It's like being born again, you have to start all over' , I thought this was the way to look at it and have never heard it put this way before.
Whats Positive??? It's a beautiful country and you have a way in , unlike some people who do not have what Aus needs!
Go for it, live the experience and embrace its culture
Join Poms in Adelaide, Adelaide Brits and British Expats. On all 3, start threads asking to be put in touch with policemen serving in SA.
Don't "load" the question by saying that you have heard negative feedback because you want to hear from policemen who are happy there as well as from any who aren't.
AdelaideBrits, in particular, can be amazingly helpful. They all rootle through their address books saying, "Dawn knows a guy who is in the SA police.... " They get the jungle drums beating to alert Dawn (a name I have simply made up as an example) and the next thing, the policeman is in touch.
I have a very dear friend who has moved to Adelaide and absolutely LOVES it out there. Her husband works for Campbells Soups there. If you would like to be put in direct touch with my chum, please let me know. Her daughter was 7 when they moved so she can tell you about schools etc.
Julie thats so sweet of you. I will def want to get in contact with your friend perhaps in a few months time when we know if we will def be going (hubby has entrance xm tomorrow). Adelaide looks and sounds beautiful, i just want my hubby to be happy in his job. Ill take your advice and sign up on all three sites and see what happens. Ill keep you posted.
