another newbie

Hi all!

I'm new to the forum, but I hope you can answer a couple of queries. We have been thinking about emigrating from the UK to WA (Perth) after visiting rellies who have offered to sponsor us. We've never been risk takers, but its such a great chance for us that we have to consider it. Personally, I'd be very nervous as to whether I'd get a job, having no trade as such (I'm a firefighter of 23 years) but my wife is a HR administrator and I understand she would have no trouble finding employment. Has anyone else here entered Aus on family sponsorship? What are the pitfalls? And how long does it take to find decent well paid work? We have an eight year old daughter to consider too. Reckon I should take the chance and upsticks? The house prices have gone up drastically, at least in Perth and suburbs, and that is what puts me off more than anything I think - I'd end up with a bigger mortgage. Any encouragement (or discouragement!!) appreciated!

I have a six year old daughter and I am going over on a student Visa. You have to way up the pros and cons of the quality of life. Not just for your child but also for you and your partner. There are hardships along the way (its taken us 4 years and we finally fly this month) but I know if we can make it work we will have a much brighter futre. There are risks involved but what is life without a few risks. My wifes family live in Perth already and its good that you have a support network there to help you out when you need it. If you are worried about work, First of all take a look at the Migration ocupations in demand list (MODL) on the aussie government website. then just google some job sites in perth and see what happens. Good luck with your desicion making.

Hi Kulashaker & Welcome to PIO!..it's a great site and there are plenty of people with all sorts of experiences behind them here and in Aus..unfortunately i don't think anyone can give you the answer to staying or going..that's something which is so personal and only you can weigh up..i'm sure you know that..Hey! but wouldn't it be GREAT if someone could make it that easy..i know we've been through some 'shall we, shan't we' times..anyway all the best for your plans and i'm sure there'll be lots of people to help and support if you need it..
